Interview with Raven from August Moon by Tammy Morea

Today we have the opportunity to get to know Raven, the female Protagonist of August Moon. Please make her feel welcome!

T: Thanks for talking to us today Raven.
R: Oh! No problem, I’m always up for a conversation. I love to talk.

T:  Great! It’s much easier to interview someone who loves to talk. So you just moved from Brooklyn, a borough in New York City. To Atlantic Beach, a small beach town on Long Island. Are you finding it difficult to adjust to the change?
R: Well, it definitely was kind of a culture shock. Brooklyn is all congested with lots of people, buildings and traffic, plus there aren’t many trees. And Atlantic Beach is all wide open space, with the beach and all. The Air just seems cleaner, ya know.

T: It sounds like it’s a beautiful place to live. I’m glad you are adjusting well. It must be hard for you being that you’re going into your senior year of high school in the fall. Are you nervous about going to a new school?
R: I was very upset about it when my parents told me we were moving. I wanted to graduate with all my friends, plus I was worried that no one would like me. I am really lucky that my cousin Jo moved to Atlantic beach, two years ago, that made it a lot easier to make friends. So I’m not as nervous about going to my new high school in September.

T: Speaking of Jo, from what I understand she is not only your cousin, but your best friend. Did you see each other a lot growing up?
R: Just about every day! She lived down the block from me in Brooklyn. When she moved, I literally thought I was going to die. I cried for like a week straight.

T: Well then I am happy that you two are back together again!
R: Me too, “were thick as thieves”, as my Mom always says.

T: Is there a certain Boy who has captured your attention?
R: Yes, Quinn, but if you don’t mind, I’d rather not talk about him right now. It’s still very painful.

T:  I’m sorry, I did not mean to upset you, let’s forget about him and do something fun. Will you answer a few rapid-fire questions before you go to help everyone get to know you better?
R: Absolutely, those are fun! I’m ready…

T: Dogs or Cats?
R: Dogs, I like cats too, but I am definitely a dog person.

T: Vanilla or Chocolate?
R: Vanilla, always. I don’t really like chocolate. Weird, I know.

T: Books or movies?
R: Books are always better than the movie, I love to read. But I’m kinda a movie buff too.

T: Ketchup or mustard?
R: Oh definitely, ketchup.

T: Summer or winter?
R: Summer! Who likes the winter?

T: Looks like our time is up Raven, Thanks for stopping by. I guess we will have to check out your story in August Moon to see what has made you so upset by just mentioning Quinn’s name. Whatever it is, I do hope you feel better soon.
R: Yea, me too. Thanks for having me.

About the Author

I am a Young Adult Author, My first Novel August Moon will be released in late spring 2014. Besides writing I love to read Romance, YA, ChicLit, Fantasy, Paranormal and a good auto biography never hurt anyone. My other greatest passion is animals, I love them all, but I have a weakness for dogs, I wish I could save every single one that needs saving. I have a dog Tank, he’s my heart and he’s a big… mush, I bite his face all day long and he lets me. I also love mini pigs, one day I will have one. My fiancΓ© Chris doesn’t think so, but what does he know. I think I’m an amateur photographer, but really I just like to take pictures and sometimes they come out really good. I love Riding on the back of Chris’s Harley, it’s my favorite form of transportation. I’m obsessed with the Twilight Saga, those books literally changed my life. Tattoos are sexy, I have seven. I pretty much love anything with a skull on it. My thumb is very green, just ask my air plants. I can cook my ass off, just ask Chris. I enjoy being active in all different ways- hiking, biking, camping, taking Tank for a 3 mile walk, working out or sitting on the couch all day catching up on my DVR recordings. I love to dress up and wear make up and accessories (I have a ring addiction, that I think I might need some counseling for) and heels, but I can get dirty on a camping trip or hang out in my sweats and a tee all day, I will even walk Tank in Pj’s with no make -up on(yep, you heard me, Pj’s, no make up- outside in public) I come from a big crazy Italian family and I wouldn’t have it any other way. And just because I want to give her props, I think Marilyn Monroe is the sexiest, hottest, bad-ass bitch in the history of bitches ( bitches meaning all us girls.)

Interview

Have you always wanted to be a writer? I've loved reading since the age of five, but it wasn't until a writing assignment in Junior High that I realized how much I loved creating stories. I haven't stopped since.

What was the first story that you wrote? The first story I can remember was a short story with my younger brother as the hero. In the story, he fought a bear and wrestled a tornado. Looking back, I think I was modifying folk tales.

When were you first published? How were you discovered? I was first published with Barbour Publishing in 2007. I entered Beneath the Midnight Blue into a contest, won first place in the inspirational category, obtained an agent and the book was sold, all within a six month time frame. The title was changed to Fudge-Laced Felonies and my career as a cozy author was born.

What is the most difficult part of the whole writing process? The middle of the book. Every book is the same for me. I start off strong, struggle through the middle chapters to keep the page-turning suspense going, then end with a bang!

What do you like to read? I read every genre except erotica and science fiction. I'm an avid reader.

Where can people learn more about you? My website is www.cynthiahickey.com

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about yourself? My husband and I are a "yours, mine, and ours" blended family. Holidays are a riot!

Please tell us in 20 words or less, why we should read your book. Anything For a Story is a rollicking good time as the main character, an author, sets out to keep her characters from becoming clichΓ© and stumbles into trouble.

What inspired you to write this book? I thought it would be fun to write about a reclusive author who is thrust into situations she had no desire to be in, all for the sake of her writing.

SynopsisRed

Reese Abbott thought her step up to an accounting manager would be with a more prestigious company than Casteel Motorsports, especially when she steps foot inside the building. Finding it spattered in grease and overrun by male employees, she wonders what she has gotten herself into. Everett Casteel is the man in charge. His three brothers help run the operation, making it more of a family affair and a place for ribbing and pranks. When Reese is hired without Everett’s knowledge, he’s furious. Having lost his wife in an auto accident, two years prior, he doesn’t want any woman filling the job his wife once held. Unexpectedly, he’s drawn to Reese and can’t help but want her physically. Although she has gone without sex for several months, she has no intentions of having a fling with her new boss. When bad boy, Everett, makes a pass at her, it sends Reese running out the door in her heels. Her younger sister, Becca, convinces her that an exciting affair with her boss is exactly what she needs before she likely settles down with a boring man. Unable to resist Everett, she agrees to his sexual games as long as he agrees to her conditions. Both wanting to have the upper hand, they challenge each other sexually, experimenting in ways they have only imagined. Neither bargain for what the other brings to the table, and when both think they’ve found exactly what they’re looking for, Reese makes a discovery about Everett’s deceased wife. The shocking revelation leaves him questioning the value of trust; the very thing he convinced Reese she had found in him. This is a hot, sexy read with descriptive sexual scenes and harsh language.

Everett’s POV as he speaks to Reese: Go to lunch with me.” “Won’t the guys wonder why we’re going?” “I don’t give a flying fuck what any of them think about it.” “But I do. Remember?” She stands, and those eyebrows of hers are about to reach the peak of her forehead as her fists rest against her hips. Why in the hell did I agree to condition two? “Look, apparently you worked at stuffier establishments than this. We’re a family business, and everyone is laid back here. You’re paranoid. No one would think less of you because we like each other.” “I’m finishing my first fucking week here, and you think they’re not going to think differently of me?” Charging right at her, I pull her into my arms and take hold of her chin firmly. “You need to lower your own damn voice, and we’re about to wrestle if you don’t chill.” She exhales a frustrated breath as she leans her head back and stares at the ceiling. Her smooth throat calls to me like the wind when I’m riding. There’s never a destination far enough to get my fill of the open road, and I have an uneasy yet thrilling sense that I won’t get my fill of Reese, either. She’s layers of mystery that I need time to unfold, and her feistiness gets my blood coursing and dick throbbing, leaving me desperate for a release. Sliding my hands into the back of her hair, I hold her still and start at the hollow of her neck. The tip of my tongue embarks on its journey upward, making small circles. She swallows hard beneath it, and knowing she’s excited has my cock aching against my zipper. Her hands slip under the front of my black t-shirt, blasting me with heat as my tongue skates its way up. I circle her ear before the tip barely skims along the skin behind it. “What you do to me, I can’t explain it. I have to show you. Let me fucking show you, Reese, and stop being so damn difficult.” Fingers follow the ripples of my abs like she’s reading goddamn braille, and I’m about to spread her wide on this desk and pleasure her until she can’t even cry out my name because she’ll hardly be able to breath. “Son of a bitch,” I say before I let her go and storm to the door. Pointing back at her, I see that she’s panting, her eyes barely open, skin pink and blotchy. Dammit. “You and me tonight, and I’m getting a taste this time.” I can’t help but scowl as I readjust my raging hard-on in my jeans. I’m impossible. Bullshit. Working with her is what’s damn near impossible.

Scarlet Wolfe began writing in January of 2013 as a way to distract and heal from some of the grief she was dealing with after the death of her teenage son. She instantly fell in love with bringing characters to life. Releasing contemporary romance throughout 2013, she has already branched out this year, releasing erotica and teen. She loves her family, friends, chocolate, wine, stories about possessive, hot alpha males, and other flavors of ice cream besides vanilla. ;) She hopes her writing will encourage readers to feel more comfortable exploring their sexuality.

Book Blitz {Excerpt & Giveaway} Gypsy by Trisha Leigh

Release Date: 05/13/14
378 pages

Summary from Goodreads:
Inconsequential: not important or significant.
Synonyms: insignificant, unimportant, nonessential, irrelevant

In the world of genetic mutation, Gypsy’s talent of knowing a person’s age of death is considered a failure. Her peers, the other Cavies, have powers that range from curdling a blood still in the vein to being able to overhear a conversation taking place three miles away, but when they’re taken from the sanctuary where they grew up and forced into the real world, Gypsy, with her all-but-invisible gift, is the one with the advantage.

The only one who’s safe, if the world finds out what they can do.

When the Cavies are attacked and inoculated with an unidentified virus, that illusion is shattered. Whatever was attached to the virus causes their abilities to change. Grow. In some cases, to escape their control.

Gypsy dreamed of normal high school, normal friends, a normal life, for years. Instead, the Cavies are sucked under a sea of government intrigue, weaponized genetic mutation, and crushing secrets that will reframe everything they’ve ever been told about how their "talents" came to be in the first place.

When they find out one of their own has been appropriated by the government, mistreated and forced to run dangerous missions, their desire for information becomes a pressing need. With only a series of guesses about their origins, the path to the truth becomes quickly littered with friends, enemies, and in the end, the Cavies ability to trust anyone at all.

Excerpt

The library is one of the bigger rooms in the house, converted from what used to be the upstairs parlor. The Professor looks out a window that overlooks the back lawn. Shelves, sagging with dusty books, cover every inch of the light blue, fifteen-foot walls. The morning sunlight still lingers around the front of the house, making this space dim, but motes of dust twirl and waltz like members of a royal court on the pale, reaching beams.

All at once, happiness floods my bloodstream, as though someone smacks good cheer into my chest cavity through my shoulder blades. The strange desire to burst into song hums along my nerve endings, as though I’m a Disney princess summoning her bird and varmint attendants at the window. It takes serious concentration to bite back the urge.

The abrupt change in mood announces another Cavy’s presence, but as hard as I try to glare at Pollyanna, my mouth refuses to cooperate. Her mutation, a reverse empath alternation that allows her disposition to affect the moods of people in close proximity, is more...invasive than most. Losing control of my own mind never fails to make me feel icky.

And given her insistence on cynicism and anger, she's not aptly named. Not at all.

“Feeling good, Gyspy?” She shakes out her long, blond hair and pins me with china-blue eyes. The faux-happy shroud crawling from her to me dissolves and my smile finally falls away. Polly nods. “That's better. You look weird when you smile.”

“Pollyanna, we have spoken at length about the perils of using your gifts on your fellow Cavies.” The Professor's patient, tired voice reprimands the youngest of his students, if only by several months.

The Philosopher, who runs Darley, took us in before we were three months old, and we all arrived between sixteen and seventeen years ago.

“Sorry, sir.”

She's not sorry, but his chastisement and her apology are part of our daily routine. Of all the kids here, Pollyanna is my least favorite. She's everyone's least favorite, and even though she knows it she doesn't change. I guess she doesn't care.

“Sorry for what? Fucking with people again?” The voice bleeds out of thin air before Haint shimmers into view around it, face first. She leans against one of the bookcases once her shoulder appears, examining her nails as she waits for her daily reprimand.

The Professor doesn't disappoint. “Language, dear.”

He says nothing to me, not even hello, nor does he issue a warning to Haint about using her ability to go invisible. It’s not dangerous. Pollyanna could make any one of us walk straight off a cliff if she felt particularly suicidal that day.

The twins Athena and Goose arrive together, a tornado of rough-housing elbows and flashes of reddish hair, loosing half a shelf of books onto the floor and toppling an end table before getting themselves under control. The Professor ignores them, having long ago resigned himself to their antics.

We're all here now, at least those who are expected. Mole is still enduring his weekly brain prodding and so is Reaper. They’re our lethal Cavies, and are kept for testing more often and for longer than the rest of us. We're categorized according to our level of usefulness, the details of our mutations and abilities listed in records the Philosopher hopes might convince the government we could be potential assets as opposed to threats.

Three Operationals, two Substantials, one Developmental, three Unstables, and one Inconsequential. That’s me. The one who will never be an asset to anyone but can't be locked away and forgotten like an Unstable, either. They don't know what to do with me, so I shuffle along with the group.

“Everyone sit down, please.”

The Professor's command sounds more like a genteel request, and we drop into a circle of cross-legged teenagers on the oval Oriental rug that smothers the center of the room. He paces behind us, passing binder-clipped pages into our waiting hands.

I grab mine, excited as the title filters through my eyes and into my brain. It's a thesis, written by the Scientist back in the 1960s: Genetic Mutation and the Human Brain.

He died before any of us were born but his thoughts and experiments, his studies, help the scientists at Darley Hall figure out what might have caused the mutations that resulted in our “gifts.” Maybe one day they'll figure out how to switch off those screwy genes and I can touch another person without at least one layer in between us. Without the protection, touching someone means seeing a number in my mind.

The age the other person is going to die.
My “talent” is creepy at best, totally useless at worst, and being able to get rid of it has been a hidden desire for the whole of my life.

About This Author

A. J. Lape’s Darcy Walker Series broke into the Top 50 books in Teens Literature & Fiction within 36 hours of its release. It has spent numerous weeks in the Top 100 in Mystery Series and Teens, Mysteries & Thrillers Categories as well as being one of the Top Rated in its genre. A self-proclaimed neurotic and troublemaker at heart, a perfect day for A. J. consists of writing, watching her kids play sports, drinking Coke, then lounging in her pajamas by 8PM.

She lives in Cincinnati with her husband, two feministic daughters, an ADD dog, a spoiled hamster, and an unapologetic and unrepentant addiction to Coca-Cola, with a lifelong love affair with bacon.  She studied English, Journalism, and Political Science at Morehead State University and left the business world when her daughters were born.  Her love for suspense and a good story was born from watching Mystery Science Theater with her sister during childhood.  That and any B movie with comedic undertones they could get their hands on.

When she’s not riding that razor-thin line between creativity and insanity, she  likes to read, watch too much cable TV, or cheer like a banshee at her daughters’ sporting events. She’s a huge hometown sports fan and loves to watch the Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds whenever she can.

Interview

How long have you been writing? I majored in English and Journalism in college so I’ve always had writing assignments, but the Darcy Walker Series specifically I started writing on Friday, the 13th, 2008.

Who is your favorite author and why? Oh, wow, I like so many, but I’d say I have a two-way tie between JR Ward and Karen Marie Moning. Both have such a grasp of the human mind and spirit and can weave humor into the most bizarre situations that should crumble a person. I also like Janet Evanovich and Kristen Ashley a ton…I just can’t pick!

What are your favorite things to do besides writing? Watch the Cincinnati Bengals or Reds play. Veg in front of my DVR or go to movies. Take long walks with my husband—right now he is my personal shrink. He probably doesn’t listen most of the time, but I exorcise myself of some worry and it saves on a psychiatry billJ. Plus I like to watch my kids participate in their sports. They make me smile.

What is your favorite scene to write? Character conversations. I like when Darcy interacts with her best friend or her father the most. Those are the most fun.

What are you currently working on? DEFCON Darcy, book four.

Who designed the cover of 100 Proof Stud? The ’68 Zombie Comics duo of Mark Kidwell and Jay Fotos.  They’re talent is unbelievable, and I’d follow them inside a spewing volcano so they’d keep working with me.

Who is your favorite character in your book and why? My characters are like my kids, so it is really hard to pick, but the character that makes me laugh the most is Vinnie Vecchione. You never know what Vinnie is going to say or do and ninety-nine percent of the time it is inappropriate.

What is one book everyone should read? Hands down, the Bible. It has withstood centuries of blood, war, and rivalries. In this era, though? I’d say The Hunger Games. That book had me emotionally distraught for days…I mean DAYS. Then Divergent came along, and I seriously needed emotional rehab.

What is your favorite quote? “Whatever you are, be a good one.” Abe Lincoln.
