Bodie Scott knows about grief all too well. Critically injured in an alcohol related accident the year before, Bodie struggles with the fact that he’ll never play football again, and he’s so far behind in credits he can’t see straight. That is, until he meets Nev. Haunted by their bloody pasts and wary of a shared future, Nev and Bodie turn to one another for comfort and support, and realize they’re not so alone after all. And when the party scene at school threatens the life of a loved one, the two stop at nothing to keep the past from repeating itself.

Excerpt

I slid my finger across the touch-screen, ready to dial my guy when the loud whirring from the Tate's heavy slider drew my attention from my phone.

Eyes wild, movements jerky, Reid stormed out of the house slinging a barrage of curse words that would make Lil Wayne blush. His mother's silhouette appeared in the doorway, the light from the newly risen moon combined with the yellow glow from the interior lighting making her look like a thin, black blob.

"I can't do it, Reid," she cried. "You don't know what you're asking. We'd have nowhere to go. Nowhere to live."

Reid spun on his heels and sliced a hand through the air. "I'd rather sleep in a fucking box than live with that asshole another day. You can leave him, Ma. You just … won't, and I don't know why."

Silence flooded the open space, the mating call of a few horny crickets and the faint rumble of a sputtering car engine far off in the distance a poor soundtrack for the real-life drama playing out in front of me.

Buzz!

Buzz!

Buzz!

Oh, crap!  Frantic, I fumbled with the volume button on my cell for several seconds before shoving it into my pocket. Silent, but not silenced, the thing continued to vibrate at regular intervals for several moments before finally stopping.

"Enjoy the show?"

I stiffened, shame-filled heat spreading across my extremities as I looked up and locked eyes with one very pissed off Reid.

Metal scraped against metal as his mother disappeared into the house, sliding the glass door closed behind her.

"No. I didn't … I mean, I … " Words never came easily for me when conflict was involved. And though the conflict wasn't mine, the fact remained I'd enjoyed a front row view of the Tates' nightly serial drama when I should have minded my own business. I felt like a jerk.

"Pssh … whatever." He pulled a lighter out of his pocket, lit the cigarette in his hand, and immediately took a drag. He exhaled with a deep sigh, the smoke circling up and around him like some sort of ghostly vortex.

His jeans—the only article of clothing he had on—rode low on his hips, the denim visibly worn, the edges frayed from wear. The soft, yellow light from the house behind him cast a warm glow over his already bronzed skin and highlighted the chiseled shadows covering his muscled frame. Broad shoulders tapered down to a narrow waist, which showcased a set of abs that made my toes curl. He had to work out. Bodies didn't look that good from just sittin' around shootin' the breeze.

The standout feature, though, was the ginormous dragon tattoo that crawled across the center of his chest from his right shoulder. The ink was extensive and mostly complete, which meant he'd spent a good amount of time in someone's chair—and recently, too. I was pretty sure you couldn't get a tat until you were eighteen. Although, with Reid, anything was possible.

Summary from Goodreads

Perception is everything to sixteen-year-old Olivia Brown. With her freakishly hot boyfriend, volunteer work at the local animal shelter, successful beauty channel on YouTube, and well-earned spot on X Factor Cheer's elite level five Diamond Girl team, Livvie's the girl every other girl wants to be. At least, that's the illusion she's aiming for.

But Livvie's seemingly perfect life is anything but. Lying about the bruises her boyfriend gives her, and cowering beneath his raging temper becomes a regular way of life until she unwittingly witnesses her drunken neighbor beating his step-son, the town bad boy, Reid Tate.

For Reid, vulnerability is the enemy. Opening up, and letting people in gives them the power to disappoint. Growing up with a co-dependent mother and an abusive alcoholic father, Reid has endured all the disappointment he can stomach.

But when his pretty, do-good neighbor witnesses his step-dad beat him to within an inch of his life, and not only call the cops, but keeps quiet at school about what she saw, Reid wonders if maybe, just maybe, he's found someone he can finally trust.

Self-publishing my novels were the best things I ever did for my publishing career. In 2012, my three medical romances, Babies in the Bargain, Right Name, Wrong Man, and No More Lies landed on the Amazon bestseller list for contemporary romance and medical romance. I was walking on cloud nine when my name was posted on Amazon.com in the 100 most Popular Authors in Romance list for several months.

Filled with energy and enthusiasm, I hid in my writing cave and wrote for days and nights, stopping only to walk on the beach or exercise at the gym.

My books have garnered: Top Picks; Outstanding Read; Sweetheart of the Week; Best Book of the Week at various reviewers, and received two mentions in Publisher’s Weekly, and won several awards, from Best Contemporary Romance of the Year at READERS FAVORITE with two Gold Medals, to EPPIE award finalist and Best Romance Novel of the Year at Preditors & Editors Readers Poll.

I will continue to write and read while traveling and discovering unchartered territories and fresh inspiration for interesting stories and new settings.

I had breast cancer in 2009. From diagnosis to the end of chemo and radiation, took a year. I had problems with the treatment phase, developing a stomach ulcer, and needing a new treatment regimen. But I got through it. Like my heroine, I can do this, became my mantra.

One out of every eight women will get breast cancer. Alarming figures. One out of eight!

Get your breast exam yearly. From one year to the next, I was diagnosed with a cancer that was aggressive. If I’d waited another year, it might have been too late. During my treatment, I learned about a writer friend of mine who died of breast cancer. Don’t be the next victim.

Get your exam!

Blog Tour {Interview & Giveaway} How To Get Ainsley Bishop To Fall in Love With You by T.M. Franklin

Ainsley Blog Tour

Today, we hear from T.M. Franklin, who's fun YA Romance, How to Get Ainsley Bishop to Fall in Love with You comes out on June 12th. I asked her about love, romance, and what inspired the story.

1. Why did you take the leap into YA Humour/Romance?
I’ve written some humor before and really enjoyed it, but in this case it was because I kind of needed it. I was between Books #2 and #3 in the MORE Trilogy and wanted to write something fun and different, to cleanse my writing palate a little. The trilogy was fun to write, but it was very complex from a planning standpoint – there were a lot of characters and plot points to keep track of and resolve over the three-book arc. Ainsley, as a standalone book, was much easier to plot and the humor element made it a lot of fun to write. It was kind of a relief to write something a little lighter.

2. Do you think happy endings in novels are important, if so why?
I don’t think every book has to have a happy ending. I like a good cry as much as the next girl and there are times that I actually want that. I can accept a sad or unresolved ending as long as the story is well-written. That said, I find it difficult myself to write a book without some semblance of a happy ending – not necessarily even a full-fledged fairy-tale ending, but at least a ray of hope.

3. Do you think romance is harder on boys or girls in High School? Why?
Oh, I think as a rule high school romance is the best and worst thing…regardless if you’re a boy or a girl. Everything is so intense when you’re that age. You fall harder and heartbreak feels like it’ll kill you. That said, I tend to think it’s harder on girls. It seems like so much of social pressure on girls is tied to having a boyfriend or being popular. Of course, this pretty much comes from my own experience of once (a long time ago!) being a teenage girl…and from being the mother to boys, neither of whom seemed that concerned with romance in high school. Hardly a scientific sampling.

4. Ainsley seems to have the perfect life, she is popular, beautiful and smart. But there is more to her then meets the eye, right?
Ainsley puts up a good front. She’s what everyone expects her to be – what everyone wants her to be – but she puts who own wants on the back burner. She thinks in order to be a good, kind, unselfish person, she has to put everyone else’s needs before her own. I think this is common among women, actually. Girls are taught not to be pushy or demanding. It’s considered rude, whereas for a boy, it’s dubbed perseverance or self-confidence. Ainsley eventually reexamines this belief though, and Oliver helps her realize that her goals and dreams are as important as anyone else’s.

5. What is the message you want teenagers who read this novel to get?
That it’s okay to be different. That it’s awesome to be different. Oliver isn’t one of the “popular” kids, but he doesn’t let that define him or keep him from reaching for his dreams. He knows he has something unique to offer. Every teen does, and I hope they can find a way to focus on that, rather than trying to “fit in.”

6. Did anyone close to you inspire your characters?
I hesitate to say this because I’d hate for people to meet him and say, “Oh, you’re Oliver.” Because he isn’t. But my son was the initial inspiration for the story. He doesn’t make lists or plan on going to MIT or anything, but he is one of those kids who doesn’t care what others think of him. I wanted to write a book about a kid like that, who is comfortable with who he is, even if other people don’t necessarily get him. And I wanted to write a story about someone who does get him, and love him. J

7. Why is love important in literature?
I think love is the basis for a lot of things: anger, greed, generosity, self-sacrifice. So, it makes sense that it plays a huge part in literature. It motivates virtually everything we do – whether it be love for our family, friends, or a romantic partner. I mean, think about it. Why do we do the things we do? If it’s not motivated by hunger, thirst, cold, hot, pain or fear, it’s motivated by love.

8. What are you onto next?
Right now, I’m editing TWELVE, the third book in the MORE Trilogy, which comes out in October. This summer, I’ll be participating in a Young Adult/New Adult Book Tour with other Northwest Authors, which should be really fun. (More info. can be found here: http://yanabooktour.wix.com/info)

I’ve also started two new stories – one will be a full-length novel. It’s untitled, but is a time-travel/alternate-reality story that is proving to be a lot of fun to write. And I’m working on a Christmas short story that I hope to release this holiday season, but it depends on how the other book goes.

Ainsley

Seventeen-year-old Oliver Wendell Holmes (Yes, his parents are just that peculiar, but his brother's name is Sherlock, so it could have been worse) knows that he's different. He's quirky, awkward, and he's okay with that. Oliver also likes making lists-meticulous procedures for achieving his goals, step-by-step. Whether it's "How to Get an A in Chemistry" or "How to Get Accepted to MIT," he has a process, and it's worked for him so far. He doesn't even care that the popular kids mock him. Oliver's got his eye on the prize.

So when he decides it's time to declare his feelings for Ainsley Bishop, the girl of his dreams, it's only natural for him to make a list-a point-by-point strategy to win her heart. He knows it will take a grand gesture for her to see all he has to offer, and her approaching birthday provides the ideal opportunity for Oliver to put his plan into action.

Finding the perfect gift is a challenge Oliver meets with his usual dogged determination. He'll need to watch her carefully for clues to pinpoint exactly what he should give her. And along the way, he might just learn that what Ainsley really needs is not quite what he expected.

I am an “Indie” contemporary romance author. I live in California with my husband and two teenage boys. I love being a stay at home mom. My husband and I enjoy wine tasting and camping with our kids with our four wheelers in the middle of nowhere, where you can find me with my pink Ryder BB gun!

We have a handful of pets, a dog named Lucy (who is in my books) and a guinea pig named Flufy (my son spelled her name that way) and a cat who adopted us many years ago and has never left. She is a spoiled outdoor cat with her own two story house and a heated bed.

I never liked reading as a kid. I only started reading romance novels in the past few years. My Kindle and I are inseparable now. A thought occurred to me in December of 2012 that maybe I could write a romance novel. So I went to work with the encouragement of my husband and my sister-in-law. It didn’t take long to figure out that I really enjoyed writing.
