Book Blitz {Excerpt & Giveaway} Unrequited by Emma Grey

Unrequited
by Emma Grey
Release Date: 05/26/14

Summary from Goodreads:
Seventeen-year-old Kat Hartland loathes Unrequited, the world's biggest boy band. Is she the only girl in Sydney who can't be bothered with perfect-looking Angus Marsden?

Give her 5 Seconds of Summer. Now.

Or maybe the seriously-hot med student who rescued her on a train—and who could be Douglas Booth's twin! Perfect formal partner, much?

But when Kat comes face to face with Angus Marsden himself, things start to get complicated. Very. Throw in a deranged female popstar, final exams, a part in the musical and a mum who just doesn't get it—and where is her best friend?

When did life get so crazy? Kat's just an ordinary schoolgirl.

Isn't she?

Excerpt
Her attention drifts to the boy sitting opposite her on the train. In her anti-band flap, she hadn’t noticed him board. What an oversight! He’s on his phone and she shamelessly eavesdrops. He’s talking about his uni project while she takes mental note of his cheekbones and jawline—the type usually reserved for people like superman and Douglas Booth. On-trend reading glasses. Dark, floppy hair. A satchel full of textbooks gaping open on the seat beside him.

Hmm. At some point during his highly-technical phone conversation, which he is conducting in an incredibly warm, deep voice that Kat could listen to all day, she rouses the courage to smile at him. But he looks at her like she’s a thirteen-year-old Unrequited fan and glazes right over.

Great.

She wants to say ‘Hey, I’m seventeen and I hate them! This is absolutely a case of mistaken identity, trust me …’ But saying that might not come across as charmingly as it does in her imagination and he might end up thinking she’s more of a lunatic than he likely already does.

It’s a bad day when Angus Marsden and the boys, of all people, come between Kat and a potential date with a med student. (She’s decided that’s what he is, having stalkerishly scanned the titles on the textbooks spilling out of his bag and having seen enough of Grey’s Anatomy to put two and two together. And yes, ‘date’ may be getting ahead of herself a tad, but she’s particularly good at getting ahead of herself.)

WHY didn’t she do her hair?

Oh, hang on! He’s off the phone! Try to look casual. Look out the window. DO NOT MAKE EYE CONT— GAH! Too late!

Future Dr McDreamy fleetingly locks his dark brown eyes with hers. Her heart-rate explodes. Her entire life passes before her eyes …

Oh, wait! That’s what happens when you’re about to die, not when you’re falling in love. Get your emergencies right, Kat!

Excerpt
“Do I know you?” Jax asked, stumbling back and forth.

“We have like four classes together…and I’m pretty sure you and my sister had a thing freshman year,” I replied, positive he couldn’t have been drunk enough to forget I even existed…or could he?

“Oh.” He raised his eyebrows animatedly, his blue eyes twinkling. “Satan, right?”

“Excuse me?” I asked, shocked by his question.

“Your name—or at least that’s what your sister used to call you…” His lips curled up into an evil smile.

I let go of his arm, but stood my ground. “Why are you being like this? You invited me,” I whispered, looking down, my face burning up.

Jax obviously did not get the memo that we were being discreet, because his volume only seemed to increase, catching more attention than I would have liked. “I invited you? In what world?” He cackled like an evil villain and then turned his back to me, filling his cup up with beer.

My cheeks were growing redder by the minute, a combination of embarrassment and pure rage. He was the only reason I had even agreed to come. I knew I was an outsider; that I didn’t fit in with his crowd—but he was the one who convinced me that everything was going to be alright. “You’re seriously going to sit there and pretend like you didn’t invite me to this party twice?” It was hard not to be fuming.

He turned around slowly this time, sipping on his beer, a calculated look playing across his eyes. “Well you obviously can’t take a hint…I’m going to give you the best advice of your life…are you ready? Lay off the cupcakes fatty! I can get any girl in here, what would I want with a pig like you?”

I looked around and realized all eyes were on us; more importantly, me. Jax had just given them the reality TV bit they craved for the night. Tears were beginning to form at the corners of my eyes and I knew I didn’t have much time before the waterworks. “Peyton…” I heard my friends call after me. But it was drowned out by the noise of laughter. Jax was laughing hysterically at what he had just said to me, and the worst part about it? Everyone had joined in. Now all I heard as I ran and pushed my way through the crowd was oinks and laughs.

Excerpt

Chance

I spot Grayson first, since he towers over a lot of people. Then, Brook who is eagerly waving in my direction like we haven't seen each other in weeks, when in reality it's only been three periods. Automatically, my eyes scan for Dakota but I don't see her or...Kyle anywhere. See, I can use his first name like a mature adult.

"Brook, long time no see. Have you lost weight? Dyed your hair?" I ask, watching as my friend bounces up and down on her heels.

"Har har, Chance. I know I'm excited to see you but wait till I tell you what I'm excited about!"

"She's been like this for two hours. You try dealing with her." Grayson's words receive a punch in the arm as the rest of us chuckle.

"Don't talk about me like I'm not here," she says sternly to her boyfriend before turning her attention back to me and tugging me to sit beside her. "Okay, just hear me out." I give her a puzzling look, waiting for an explanation. She has that serious look in her eyes and I'm almost afraid of what comes next.

"So, Dakota and I've been talking." Oh great. "And you know how she's going to that party with Kyle?" I'm trying not to remember that fact. "Well, we decided we'll all go. And then, because next week are the school administration conference days and we have a long long weekend—"

"Brook—" Suddenly, I know where this is going.

"Come on, Chance. Pretty pretty please can you beg your dad to let us go up to the cabin? Pretty pretty please."

"Okay, I don't care how pretty your please is. It has no merit in my world. I'm a man."

"Chance, darling. Sweetie. Honey. Handsome. Bestest friend ever." Brook grabs my hand, holding it in two of her own.

"Grayson, you okay with your girlfriend calling me all these names? And physical contact?"

"If it gets us the cabin." He's grinning ear to ear, enjoying himself as usual.

Last summer, my dad bought a cabin in the woods in Northern Arizona and Brooklynn has been begging to go up there ever since. Dad had his coworkers using the place so it was off limits for a while, but now it's back to us and apparently Brooklynn remembers everything I tell her.

"Chance!" Brook grabs me by the shoulders, shaking me a little. "You know you want to."

"Someone please restrain her," I whisper, mock horror on my face. She can be scary when she gets this single minded. It's not that I don't want to spend almost four days in a secluded location with Dakota. It's just that I don't want to spend almost four days in a secluded location with Dakota.

Yes, I know how much sense that makes. Just about as much sense as me being still hung up on a girl that barely looks at me. Well, she looks at me. With annoyance usually.

"Why does Chance look like he's swallowed a sour candy?" that voice that hunts my dreams says from behind me. I turn as Dakota and Kyle come up to our little group. My gaze instantly zeros in to where they’re holding hands. Well, this is new. Breathe, Chance, breathe.

Interview
Tell us a little about yourself and your latest/upcoming release.
I was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I love that town. I’d go back in a heartbeat, but now I’m living in the Midwest with my husband and three kids. I love summer—the ocean, the lake, the warm breeze, the tickle of grass between my toes, and especially catching fireflies at dusk. Hence why my new release, Summer’s Temptation, is set during my favorite season.
The book is about a college girl gaining her confidence back and finding love after a heartbreak. Before I wrote the book, I read a study that forty-two percent of women between the ages of twenty and thirty have had a “friends with benefits.” Instantly, a light bulb went off, and I thought it’d be fun to write about a sweet southern girl finding love in an unexpected relationship. That’s how Cassie and Tyler were born.
When did you realize that you wanted to become a writer?
About four years ago, I wrote a horrible—poke your eyes out bad—urban fantasy novel in two weeks. It was probably the worst sixty-thousand-words anyone has ever committed to paper. Of course, I thought it was brilliant, so I submitted the novel to an awesome writing site, Critique Circle, and learned how much I needed to improve if I wanted to become a professional. I love a challenge, and I decided I was going to learn the craft of writing if it killed me. Little did I know that learning to write is an ongoing process. All these years later, I’m still studying the craft.
Do you read reviews of your books? What do you do when you read a not-so-nice one?
Unfortunately, yes. I need to stop! It’s hard to read negative reviews of a book I’ve spent years slaving over, but at the same time, reviews offer helpful feedback. For example, in my first book, The Calling, I crossed genres. I thought I was writing straight paranormal romance and by the description of PR, it does fit the genre, but to readers, it’s a contemporary romance with a paranormal twist. The paranormal aspect was too light to be considered PR by their standard. A reader’s standard is what counts, not some definition I find on Wiki. I received a few negative reviews from readers who were disappointed in the light paranormal, and that was a huge eye-opening experience for me. You can bet I won’t make that mistake again, so while it hurts to read the negative reviews it also helps with future writing.
How did you come up with the title Summer’s Temptation?
I’m awful at titles! I originally named the book Hug Buddy, which was the heroine’s name for “friends with benefits”. Hee hee. My brilliant content editor came up with the name Summer’s Temptation. Thank God for her!
What's the one piece of technology you can't live without?
My laptop…and my smartphone…and my iPod…and my fitbit. I’m sort of co-dependent on technology if you can’t tell.
Ice cream or Sorbet? Ice cream
Heels or flats? Flats
Coffee or Tea? Coffee
Movies at home or Movie Theater? Movie Theater
Actual book or eReader? ereader
Thanks for having me Kelly!

Fall Into Fantasy Blog Tour: Week One {Giveaway} The Darkness & Light Series by K. L. Schwengel

Welcome to the Fall Into Fantasy Tour, where we are keeping your mind off any end-of-summer blues and welcoming the cooler weather by introducing you to some incredible fantasy reads to curl up with and giving you plenty of chances to win awesome prizes!

Week 1: The Darkness & Light Series
Book One: First of Her Kind
Book Two: Emergence
Book Three: Edge of Darkness (Release date 2015)

It seems everyone wants to dictate what Ciara does with her life: Serve the Goddess, destroy the Goddess, do as you promised your aunt -- all Ciara really wants is to keep the two magics she possesses from ripping her apart.

And that's not going to be easy.

Not only is her earth magic in complete opposition to her other power, blood ties pull her in divergent directions as well. And then there's Bolin, the man sworn to protect her. There's no denying the growing attraction between them, but is it Ciara he wants, or her power?

None of which will matter if Ciara can't overcome her fear and learn how to use her gifts. No one knows the depths of the ancient power she possesses, or what will happen if it manages to escape her control. Will she lose herself entirely? Or be forever caught between Darkness and Light?

Buy the e-book: Kindle Nook
Or the paperback: Amazon  Barnes & Noble

The battle for Ciara's power has drawn the full attention of the Emperor and the Imperial Mages, forcing Bolin to put duty above safety and take her to Nisair. It won't be an easy trip, even with an Imperial escort and a Galysian elder accompanying them. Especially since Donovan has found himself some new allies, one of who wields a dark magic that has literally gotten under Bolin's skin.

For Ciara, coming to terms with the increasingly tangible manifestation of her power could destroy her. Even if they make it to Nisair--something that grows more unlikely by the day--there is no surety of safety for Ciara, or any of them. Not with Donovan willing to gamble everything to achieve his goals, or Bolin's uncharacteristically reckless behavior, the result of which is the attention of something that has everyone worried.

Loyalties will be tested, lives will be lost, and no one will emerge unchanged as they find things are not always so clear on the line dividing Darkness and Light.

Cover Reveal for Generation X: The Rising by Desiree DeOrto

Blurb:

The Elder Race was a story told around campfires. Aliens, monsters, mad men. Those who believed were called insane, but they were right. They came from space, the seas, and below the earth. Turns out they were waiting, patiently waiting all this time. For what, no one knew, until now. They’re coming for what they think is rightfully theirs, the half-breeds that are part human, part Elder.

Once The Rising began, those who were different were gathered. Separated from the life they knew, those they loved, and moved into camps where they were tested and given the choice. But for Elizabeth, there was no choice at all. They meant to make super soldiers out of them. What they discovered instead was something that no one ever expected.

Sometimes monsters aren’t the things you can’t see, but rather, they’re the weapons of your own creation. When you’re part Elder, and part human, it’s hard to see which side of you is the true hero, and which side is the monster.  Everything Elizabeth thought she knew about herself and the world around her is changing, but will she be able to get through The Rising alive? Or will she become what the Government wants her to be: The ultimate weapon.
