(Primordial Principles #1)
Published by: Booktrope Publishing
Publication date: Fall 2015
Genres: Urban Fantasy, Young Adult

Synopsis

Kadence Sparrow wasn’t born a devil’s child—she was turned into one. Now, she’shiding from the truth, and running for her life.

For years, Kade’s true nature has lurked behind an illusion, so when her dad gets another job transfer, she knows the drill: no close friends, no boyfriends, and most importantly: don’t expose what she is. Ever. Keeping secrets is easy. Lies are second nature. So is the loneliness—and the fear, but when the Shadows attack, and Kade meets Cole Spires, she could expose everything she’s trying to hide.

As one of the Celestial Children, Cole lives by an oath: defend the Ward, protect the Primordial race, guard the gateways, and stick to his own. Everything else is a distraction, and besides, he’s lost enough. Cole’s job is clear, and no one his age does it better. So, when he meets Kade in a club downtown, he assumes she just wants his attention. Most girls do, but Cole soon realizes … Kade isn’t like most girls.

The children of heaven and hell are living among us, fighting an age-old war. And falling for someone from the opposition is not an option. But a chance encounter between Kade and Cole will blur the rules, as Kade’s journey to keep her truth hidden catapults them together and into a web of lies, forcing her to not only face the demon inside her, but to answer the hardest question of all.

Which is thicker—blood or water?

AUTHOR BIO

I'm a product of very creative parents and the most imaginative grandmother ever. I have an untapped passion for the supernatural and all things magical. My voracious appetite for reading fantasy started really young ~ and so did my love of words.

By the time I reached my teens, I'd accumulated notebooks full of poems, which I never shared. Poems led to short stories and short stories led to novels.

Now, I write young adult dark urban fantasy novels mixed with a spike of romance, a hint of history, a dash of mythology, and lots of paranormal.

In 2010, I began writing The Fire Born Novels which released September 2013. It's about loss, love, friendship, Irish mythology, and embracing who we are born to be.

The second book in the trilogy, TORN, released in 2014. It's much deeper and darker than TIED. It's a little creepy. It's also my favorite of the trilogy.

The third book, TRUE, will be released in 2015.

In addition, the first book in the Primordial Principles series, CRYSTALLUM, will release in the fall of 2015.

I like creating other worlds because let's face it ~ this can't be all there is. On the non-writing side of life, I'm a former classical dancer, an unabashed music snob, used-to-be-chef, and a right-brained thinker to a fault. I love tea, hate the winter, and when I'm not dreaming up new dead ends to torture myself with, I can be found running. Maybe.

Oh, and all myths and legends are true. But you know that, right?

Book Blitz: Stupid Love by Cindy Miles with Giveaway

Stupid Love by Cindy Miles
(Stupid in Love #3)
Publication date: September 10th 2015
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Synopsis

Bestselling new adult author Cindy Miles is set to capture the hearts of STUPID GIRL fans again with the grand finale of the Stupid in Love series, featuring Memory and Jace.

MEMORY

Casualties.

That’s how I refer to the guys who’ve had the bad fortune to fall for me. They only see long legs that they wish were wrapped around them, a cat-like smile, and the reckless abandon to take on any wild dare. It’s all a game to me. Show me a bridge, and I’ll leap over the side. Give me a car, and I’ll race it. Give me a heart, and I’ll break it. I always win. I even showed Death who was boss a long time ago.

Or so I thought.

Now, time is running out, and I’m losing fast…and big. I met someone. Jace Beaumont. He’s smart, and good, and I dream about spending days exploring the summit of his perfect lips. But, I’m a grenade. I know I should leave him be. I can’t.

JACE

Study, class, work, repeat. That’s all I have time for. At twenty-five years old, I have a bit more mileage on me than the average college freshman. But, that’s what happens when you spend your youth drinking, partying, and bagging girls like it’s a full-time job. Now, I have goals. There’s just one kink in my plans. Her name is Memory. She’s every guy’s dream girl. She’s intoxicating. She’s trouble. I want to stay away. I can’t.

Excerpt

Jace’s words stuck to the inside of my skull all throughout the next day. Even after my friends all met up at my house, bound for Cooper’s Gorge for an exhilarating day of zip-lining and picnicking, the words remained. I’d want to be surrounded by my loved ones for every second of every day. Until.

Who was Jace Beaumont, anyway? Mr. Miagi? Buddha? An angel? Why was he filled with so much…profoundness? Why did he say things that struck my heart in such a way that I couldn’t stop thinking about them? About him?

And why in the absolute hell had he not kissed me yet? Last night on the porch? The air was on fire around us. I guess there was something to be said about a guy who had that much control, yeah?

I’d made my mind up to ask him. Tomorrow. About the kiss.

“Mem, you’re up!” Crisco hollered. “Get your head outta your ass, girl, and come on!”

“Quit, now,” Claire chided. She stood next to Sugar, helmet in place and looking way too big for her head, ready to zip. “She can’t help it,” she grinned. “She’s got Jace-itis!”

“Don’t hate, Peeshwank!” I yelled as I walked up to the platform. The guide was pretty damn cute, I must say. In a lanky, nerdy kind of way. He had long hair that flipped over his ears like he’d fallen straight out of the seventies. I looked at him and shook my head. “They are so jealous!”

He grinned. “Let’s get your harness on, darlin’,” he said, and proceeded to secure me in slightly intimate ways.

“I bet you say that to all the gals, yeah?” I teased.

Everyone laughed.

He eyed me. “Nice shirt.”

“Hey,” I went on as I gave my beloved T-shirt a quick glance. “Jaws was the first and greatest summer blockbuster. Of all time.”

He finished securing my harness and held his hands up in mock defense. He grinned. “Nothin’ but respect. Ready?”

I lifted my cell phone from my pocket. “Yep.”

“Ten bucks says you drop it,” the guy said.

“You’re on, skipper,” I answered, just before he laughed and gave me a push.

With friends on either side of the gorge yelling and cheering me on, I shot out on the line, legs clad in a pair of comfy holy jeans, stretched in front of me, my fave pair of worn Converses leading the way and my weight in the harness. It felt like I was flying! My stomach dropped, my lips tingled, and I yelled one of my favorite exhilarating movie quotes at the top of my lungs: “I’m the king of the world!” Then I quickly took a selfie—no idea what it looked like—and hung on for the ride.

“Woo-hoo! Yeah!” I yelled, and my lungs burned and the cold air stung my cheeks and I laughed all the way until Bentley grabbed my harness on the other side.

“You are one crazy fool,” he said, grinning and steadying me.

“Takes one to know one,” I said back, shucking out of my harness.

We watched the rest of our friends fly the gorge, and I took pics of each one just as they grew close to the platform. Claire came after me and her face was priceless. Mouth wide open, eyes even wider, screaming the most high-pitched scream I’d ever heard. I’d planned on making a giant collage for each one in our group, compiled of our zany adventures, and after four years I had quite a collection.

Bentley helped me out of my harness and as soon as I was free I pulled up the selfie I took—eyes crossed, huge grin with all of my teeth showing—and sent it to Jace. Wish you were here, I texted. He texted me right back. So do I. Your eyes are gonna stick like that one day, btw J

“I’m gonna be sick,” Bentley said, leaning over my shoulder and reading my text. His shadow fell over me, his ears casting a silhouette on my phone. He elbowed me. “Something’s different.” He cocked his head. “You really like this guy?”

I smiled. “I don’t know just yet,” I answered, and looked out over the gorge as Sugar came flying across. “But I think I do, yeah.”

Title: Serena’s Fall
Author: MK Smith
Published: August 4th, 2015
Publisher: Champagne Books
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Content Warning: Minor language
Recommended Age: 14+

Synopsis

Betrayed by her once-upon-a-naive-time friends, Serena, the last Water Fey, can’t touch any man she would ever want without dooming him to a hero’s brutal death. So she lives outcast among her own kind, caring for orphaned Fey children, casualties of an ancient war that broke magic and doomed the Fey to possible extinction.

Now her friends are back, desperate to use her powers to stop the return of the greatest evil the Fey have ever faced. Prophesy says if she doesn’t magic-up a hero and bond him to a mysterious, mystical sword, the human world will be the next to fall.

Two potential heroes surface—Lance, the free spirited surfer, and the doomed warrior Gramm. Both men want her, both need her, and both have a claim to her heart.

But Serena’s tired of human heroes dying because some Water Fey said so. With her combat boots strung tight and her corset even tighter, maybe it’s time to weave some new lines of destiny. Goth style.

Excerpt from Serena’s Fall by MK Smith

I couldn’t stand still. I paced alongside the boxes and ran my nails down the cardboard. If I were a cat, my hair would have stood on end, and my tail would have twitched.

Chloe said nothing. Her eyes darted between Rachel’s and mine but couldn’t find a place to land.

I waited for her to say something brilliant, but I didn’t expect anything would make me want to be part of her Alice in Wonderland insanity. This was Morían. Morían Le Fey. The walking genocide who painted the White Isle in blood, broke the flow of magic, and decimated every Fey clan this side of the veil in a single night—oh, and started a war that killed millions of humans.

Sure, we’ll handle her.

Heat radiated out from my core, and my skin tingled as if I were breaking out in a cold sweat. But Water Fey didn’t sweat. I tugged at my corset and wished I had laced tighter. We didn’t stand a single chance in all the nine hells at fighting one of the most powerful Fey in history.

“Well, I’m listening. But this is beyond crazy. We’re eighteen years old, not one hundred eighty. We’re barely old enough to even have powers by Fey standards. And the Incarnates, the most powerful Fey from each clan, who stopped her last time were thousands of years old.” I hoped I wasn’t sneering too loud.

Rachel ignored me and threw her best you’re wasting my time look at Chloe. “So, where is she staging her comeback?” Her tone said she wasn’t expecting much of an answer.

“The vision’s…complicated.” Chloe focused on Rachel, with less naked hostility, but her voice rose sharply. She chewed her bottom lip. Complicated my ass. She was hiding something.

“So you don’t know.” Rachel went right for the kill. “Was it even your vision?”

Chloe stomped her right foot. “Yes. It was.”

The proximity alarm sounded in my head. Crash imminent, I decided to speed it up so I could go home. Chloe’s moment to take the lead had passed. If she had straight answers she would have spoken up by now. She had to be hoping we could roll back to the days when—details irrelevant—we’d have done anything for each other.

Those days were gone.

About the Author

MK Smith writes urban fantasy with attitude, telling stories filled with quirky imperfect characters trying to survive life, friendship, and each other. Part Choctaw, all storyteller, a neighbor taught him to love fantasy when she gave him his first book. Since then he has flown on dragons, carried baleful magic in faraway lands, fought supernatural powers, and lived the melancholy of the eternal elves. But the Fey are closest to his heart. And he loves telling their stories round the fire or at his keyboard late into the night. And he’ll keep telling those stories until he becomes a story himself.

Author Interviews

Where’s home for you?
My home is wherever I can brew coffee, enjoy time with family and friends, and write. Mostly I live in the North Texas, but I spend a great deal of time on the coast and in the mountains.

I know it sounds a little vague, but I’ve seen my share of good and bad times and I’ve learned that home is where you can enjoy the simple private things that make your own life worth living. Add to that people who know you, smile when you come up the walk, and genuinely welcome you inside—and you have all the home you need.

I’ve known billionaires who had less.

What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned?
When I learned how to be a good friend, I learned how to be my authentic self.

What is your most embarrassing moment?
So many to choose from…a few months ago some friends came over to help me lay wood flooring in my gameroom. Less than 5 minutes after they arrived I slid on a small plush toy, went airborne, and hit my head against the wall. Half stunned I had to be helped onto a bed, and I lay there wondering if I had a concussion. So I picked a number over 100 at random, 127, and tried to factor it in my head. Well 127 is a prime number so it has no factors other than itself and 1. But since I couldn’t do the math, I became convinced I had a concussion so I lay still, and an ambulance was called.

Meanwhile my friends kept putting in floor. By the time everything had been sorted out my floor was installed, and I was ruled concussion free and a major geek.

What’s your favorite line from a book?
I know not all that may be coming, but be it what it will, I'll go to it laughing.

Are any of your characters inspired by real people?
Absolutely, while most of my characters are a collection of different people, some of them are strongly inspired. For example, Amanda is a combination of one of my elementary teachers and one of my mother’s close friends. While Chloe is equal parts one of my children and my mother’s free spirit—particularly in her wild teen years.

Do you have a routine for writing?
Yes, I’ve had to put some serious discipline in place to manage the juggling act of my media presence and my writing. Ideally, I’m up early and do all my social media and email. Then I slip into the kitchen and knockout breakfast. Once breakfast is done, and everyone else is out the door, I take coffee or tea and put on my headphones. Once the headphones are on, I’m writing for 4-5 hours minimum before I stop to catch up on mid-day media. Then the afternoon is a key time for me to edit other people’s work and get in some down time before everyone gets home.

Where and when do you prefer to do your writing?
I prefer to write in the morning or late evening, but morning writing is usually my most productive. Physically I have a space that I created to be my own when I write. I like polished wood and so I write on an antique table from Thailand with a multi monitor setup: one screen for my work in progress, and another for writing references like google to fact check and an online thesaurus to use when my software tells me the same word is showing up too often in a chapter.

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received about your writing?
“I couldn’t put it down.” Seriously, I know that is a cliché but the effect on an author of hearing those words is powerful. For someone to appreciate what you have written so much that they stayed up late to finish is a thrill that sinks into my soul.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to write?
The cabin scene between Rachel and Serena. Rachel needs Serena to open her end of a magic bond that connected them when they were thirteen. But that bond led to Rane, Serena’s boyfriend, dying. In the cabin they are contending for dominance, arguing over guilt and innocence, and making decisions about who they want to be relative to each other. And for much of the spoken conversation many issues are indirect. So I also had to juggle keeping the words in contact with the meaning of what the girls are really discussing.

As a writer, I find weaving that kind of multilayered tension is a far greater challenge than crafting an alien world or a magical duel.

What are you working on now?
I edit for other authors in many genres: romance from sweet to high heat, Scifi, Dystopian, children’s books, and, of course, Urban Fantasy.

Personally, I am currently working on a series romance project with an amazing author. The sequel to Serena’s Fall, and a YA fantasy about a very feisty cat.
