Sigils of the Old God
By- J.P. Moore
Genre- Epic Fantasy
Published By- Dragon Moon Press
Publication Date- November 2nd

Jamesport, Rhode Island, 1895 ...

Listen carefully. You may hear whispers of the city’s mysteries just below the howling of the wind through the rafters of the abandoned fish market. Odd creatures serve a witch in the haunted salt marshes. Sigils of ancient and forgotten magic mark the cliff overlooking the bay. A ruined stone tower of unknown age stands in the square. Do not speak too loudly of these mysteries, lest the Old God send his servants to silence you.

Fear Jacob, the most loyal and gifted of these assassins. He has killed many, from babbling ex-sailors who uncovered too many secrets in dark and faraway lands, to millionaires’ wives who summer in mansions on the cliff and wander one step too far into the occult.

But peer into Jacob’s eyes and you may see a hint of doubt. You may discover what you have suspected all along.

History is a lie.

The world is not what we think it is.

And, it is all about to come crashing to an end.

About the Author

J. P. Moore lives and writes in southern New Jersey. Though his characters would feel right at home in the dark and mossy tracts of the Jersey Pine Barrens, the setting that he enjoys with his wife and three children is a long way from the worlds of his novels and stories. Moore's settings are on the brink. Their histories are lost, or misunderstood. Their futures are uncertain. All of the heroes are gone. Only the unlikely heroes are left.

Q&A with Cate Dashwood

When did you start writing?
I was taking the ISTEP (Indiana’s standardized test) in fourth grade, and I had some extra scrap paper. I don’t remember what prompted it, but I just started writing a story about some dolls I had. I have always loved reading, and I love telling stories. When I was in college, I was fortunate enough to take some creative writing classes, and those really helped me see how I could improve my writing.

Why write romance novels?
I started reading romance novels during a rocky time in my life – my mom’s house had just flooded, and I had finished grad school and couldn’t find a job. Romance novels were a great comfort to me during that time. Originally, I had just spent five years immersed in academic writing, and just wanted to read something that didn’t take loads of analysis. But then I discovered that romance novels were so much more than that. I love reading new ones and rereading old favorites. My bedside table usually has about four or five romance novels on it at any given time.

What are your books about?
My first series centers around the five Dugan siblings, Moira, Abel, Cade, Kieran and Finn, and the Irish pub they own in the fictional college town of Red Bridge, Indiana. “Straight Up” is Moira’s story, while “On The Rocks” is Abel’s. They’re available now, while the third book, “Another Round,” covers Cade’s love life, and comes out in early December.

Do you have to read the books in order?
Nope, I purposely wrote them so you can read them in any order. Of course some things might be given away in future books, but let’s be honest, it’s the journey that’s the interesting part of a story!

Who are your favorite authors?
Oh gosh, I have so many! Among the romance community, Julia Quinn was my gateway author, and I always love anything she writes. I read everything from Eloisa James, Victoria Dahl, Pamela Clare, Jill Shalvis, Lisa Kleypas, Monica McCarty, Jamie McGuire … really, the list is endless. I’m very fortunate to have a wonderful friend who is also an independent author, Traci Hilton, who has given me so much advice and is always willing to answer my many questions. Outside of the romance genre, my favorite author is Jhumpa Lahiri. What are your next projects? I’m planning to publish the fourth and fifth books in the Dugan Siblings Series, which means I have to finish them! They cover Kieran and Finn’s stories, and I’m really excited about them. Beyond that, I already have my next series planned. All I know right now is that it involves one of my favorite sports: ice skating!

Author Bio
Cate Dashwood's journey to the world of romance novels started with a happy event and a traumatic one: she finished her Masters degree in journalism around the same time her mom's house flooded. Needing an escape from mucking out a house, she picked up "The Lost Duke of Wyndham" by Julia Quinn. A few hours later, she immediately bought every Julia Quinn book she could find at her local bookstore and started devouring romance novels like candy.
When she's not writing her own romance novels, she's reading anything written by Lisa Kleypas, Jill Shalvis, Pamela Clare and of course Julia Quinn. Cate lives in Indiana with a house full of animals.

The 13th Brigade
by Ky Lehman
(Rosefire Trilogy, #2)
Publication date: October 31st 2015
Genres: Paranormal Romance, Young Adult

The Light bore her.
The Earth whittled her.
The Air swayed her.
The Water cleansed her.
The Fire renewed her.

And after thirteen lifetimes, her blood still condemns her…

This second installment of The Rosefire Trilogy by Ky Lehman: a series created for all young adults at heart, answers many of the questions raised in Book 1, THE 13TH DESCENT, as the individual battles of Ren, Josh, Mike and the Tor all come to a head as they wage their final war against humankind’s greatest threat. Ren also must cross swords with the traitorous Tor Princess, Avira, who is determined to claim Mike as her own, so they can live, and forget, together under the Bloodstones dictatorship of the new world: a darkness Ren and The 13th Brigade will fight until their last breath to save Mike, Josh, and the people of Earth from enduring.

Excerpt

“DO IT!” their Commander shouts. “The bastards killed Jonny! DO IT! DO IT NOW!”

The eight soldiers in the trees all want out of making this choice; every single one of them wants to run out of the forest, over the hills and far away, to leave this magical isle and misunderstood beings who inhabit it in the untouched natural splendour they see before them, in hope that, one day, they will be able to return with their loved ones to the place and the people a now unforgotten part of them feels akin to.

But they all know that no matter how far they run or how well they hide, they will be found. And under Bloodstone law, desertion is treason and the punishment for treason is death; not only for them, but for their immediate families as well.

Threatening what a person loves holds more clout than just threatening the person, I hear in Georgie Pa’s voice, quickly dismissing it as the echo of a memory it can only be.

Scorpion, who has executed more targets than he has had Sunday dinners, carefully considers his options. He has no family to speak of, except for his Bloodstone brothers, and most of them are trapped in a pit in the middle of what they see as a battleground; in what he now sees as an oasis. He can’t just leave them here, even though, through a surety he can’t fathom, he believes they won’t be hurt. But if he does tuck tail and run, he won’t just burn at the stake, he will burn in hell for all eternity...and he is not ready to meet his father there just yet...

“Sundowner One One, this is Scorpion One Eight, preparing to launch the Millipede, over.”

“Scorpion One Eight, affirmative. We are ready and waiting, over.”

Even though the eight men in the woods are all holding the same toxic grenade, the Commander’s hasty affirmation of one soldier’s acknowledgement of his orders can only mean that a single Millipede is all that is needed to do what they came here for...

Elyse has done everything she can to protect her friends from The Council's reach. As long as they believe she's dead, she has time to rest and train for war. And war is inevitable.

When Kara arrives with the news that Anna and Chloe have been captured, Elyse is faced with the realization that no one is safe until The Council is stopped and Christoph is destroyed. She doesn't need a prophecy to tell her to lead an army. Christoph has done the one thing that ensures she'll fight to the death. He's threatened the people she loves.

It will take more than the words of an oracle to help them fight against the most powerful Descendant alive. To break The Council's oppression and rise up against a plot so many years in the making, Elyse will need to get dangerously close to her enemy. So close, in fact, she may not survive.

Release Date: 09/02/15

Summary from Goodreads

Elyse knows what it means to keep a secret. She's been keeping secrets her whole life. Two, actually. First, that she ages five times slower than average people, so that while she looks eighteen years old, she's well over eighty. Second, that her blood has a mysterious power to heal.

For Elyse, these things don't make her special. They make life dangerous. After the death of her parents, she's been careful to keep her secret as closely guarded as possible. Now, only one other person in the world knows about her age and ability. Or so she thinks. Elyse is not the only one keeping secrets. There are others like her all over the world, descendants of the very people the Greeks considered gods. She is one of them, and they have been waiting for her for a long time.

Some are waiting for her to put an end to centuries of traditions that have oppressed their people under the guise of safeguarding them. Others are determined to keep her from doing just that. But for Elyse, the game is just beginning-and she's not entirely willing to play by their rules.

About the Author

Jessica Therrien is the author of the young adult paranormal fiction series Children of the Gods. Book one in the series, Oppression, became a Barnes & Noble best-seller shortly after its release in February of 2012.

Aside from her Children of the Gods series, Jessica’s work can also be found in a published collection of flash fiction stories called Campaigner Challenges 2011. Out of over 350 submissions her story, The Soulless, won first place for people’s choice and fourth place in the judging round of Rachael Harrie’s Writing Campaign Challenge. Her story, Saved, is also available as part of the anthology.

Jessica spent most of her life in the small town of Chilcoot, California, high up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In this town of nearly 100 residents, with no street lights or grocery stores, there was little to do but find ways to be creative. Her mother, the local English teacher, inspired her to do all things artistic, and ultimately instilled in her a love for language.

In 2003, Jessica attended California State University Long Beach where her passion for language found her studying Chinese, and in 2005 she moved to Taiwan to study abroad. From 2005 to 2006 Jessica was fully immersed in the Chinese language as she attended National Taiwan University, and in 2008 she graduated from San Diego State University magna cum laude.

Jessica currently lives in Irvine with her husband and two sons. She is planning a re-release of her series through Acorn Publishing in September of 2015. The re-release will include the third and final book in her Children of the Gods series as well as a bonus chapter in the back of Oppression.

As a young 8th grade writer who published his first story in my school’s literary magazine, I was always encouraged to write what I know.

So when I sat down to write STRANGE COUNTRY DAY, I immediately knew my protagonist, Alexander Graham Ptuiac, would be a tall, skinny sports-loving new kid just starting middle school and trying to fit in. That’s because, at the age of 12, I was a tall, skinny sports-loving new kid just starting middle school and trying to fit in.

Alex’s first day of school starts out with a bang: During 7th grade orientation, he’s pulled into a room with his classmates for a ritual known as “Fresh Meet Friday.” When the event turns into a riot involving the older 9th graders, Alex discovers he has previously unknown superhero-like powers that propel him to punch the ringleader in the nose.

Unfortunately, my first day of middle school wasn’t nearly as mind-blowing as Alex’s, but I did draw a little bit from experience. I attended a private school where I was one of many new kids faced with making friends with a whole new group of students, many of whom already knew each other. Luckily, there were no hazing rituals I was forced to participate in (unluckily, I didn’t have comic book-like powers, either), but in STRANGE COUNTRY DAY, I tried to capture that same nervousness I felt about walking into a –well – strange environment, trying to fit in and attempting to adjust to an increased workload and new schedule.

In the past few years, I’ve often joked about how my interests in those days – I visited a comic book shop once a week to pick up my stack and played the card game Magic: The Gathering every day at lunch – are suddenly trendy now and lamented about how I would have been much happier if I’d been a middle schooler in 2015. But I realize now just how influential both were on my creativity and imagination.

The other huge influence? Sports, of course. I spent countless nights in front of the television (I promise, Mom and Dad, it was after my homework was done…most of the time) or at one of the many New York stadiums/arenas, taking in any and all Mets, Giants, Knicks or Rangers games I could watch. I always wish I could go back in time and tell my middle school self that one day I’d find myself in the press box at those very same arenas and stadiums. Middle School Charles would be blown away.

The one thing that truly separates me from Alex? With the help of those aforementioned powers, he ends up joining his school’s football team as a quarterback. Despite my love for the game of football, I didn’t have half the athleticism to even begin to think about playing on the gridiron.
But hey, adults – especially authors – are allowed to reimagine their pasts too, right?

Strange-Country-Day-Cover

Alexander Graham Ptuiac, the son of an inventor, wants to play for the school’s football team. During tryouts, and under the watchful eye of the team’s coach, he suddenly manifests mysterious superhuman powers. Alexander makes the team, but not before the some ill-intended adults take notice, putting his life in danger.

Alex struggles to suppress and control his strange new abilities, worried about exposing his secret and being kicked off the football team. Then he befriends Dex, a diminutive classmate who can somehow jump as high as ten feet in the air. Seems Alex isn’t the only one at school with a secret.

As the school year unfolds, Alex will find himself the target of bullies, holding hands with his first crush and discovering the shocking truth about himself and his parents.

Yet amidst this brewing conflict, another more dangerous threat looms. The village of Tara is ripped apart, not by war, but by the seed of betrayal as the priestess' own kinswoman, Gráinne, conspires to seize control. Excerpt

“Beltaine marked the night the sons of Míl and their kin arrived. You should remember that day when my beloved Tríonna died,” Méav continued. “Beltaine is when it shall begin, and Samhain—Samhain is when we shall fall and the Milidh reign. It will be then that the cries of the bean sidhe will be heard for our chieftains will have been lost.” Méav’s hand holding the herbs clenched tight. “My curse as a High Priestess was this knowledge; to be haunted by this awareness and to be ignored by those who could stop such a fate! Why else do you think I consorted with the likes Ailill, taking his land and men? Bringing fear into the minds of Túath and Milidh alike? I found a way to protect Éire when no one else would.”

The priestess remained silent. What Méav had done, although for the protection of her people, stood against the rede of the priestess: as it harm none, do as thou will. A priestess’ power was not to be used for war and death, but life. As a result, the woman was suffering the threefold law.

“Demands will be made and cast aside on Beltaine,” Méav told her. “The first encounter will be met at Sliabh Mis. The final at Tailtinn.” She paused, her hand relaxing and opening to reveal the broken herbs. “Many will fall on both sides. Yet it is us Túath who will suffer the greater loss.”

“Are you sure the High Chieftain’s will fall?” asked Kieran.

Méav nodded. “This fate cannot be changed, Neimidh guardian. Far too long has it haunted my dreams with absolute certainty.” Her eyes shifted to Shiovra. “High Priestess, I will tell you this: you can delay the battle, but not for long,” Méav said. “The druid Amhergin is as powerful as us, perhaps more so. Protect the people of Tara. That is what matters most.”
