Blog Tour: the Daughters of the People Series by Lucy Varna

The Prophecy
Daughters of the People # 1
By- Lucy Varna
Genre- Fantasy/ Romance /Romantic Suspense

Maya Bellegarde has spent her entire life searching for a way to break the curse hanging over her and her People. As part of her quest, she volunteers to investigate an anomalous burial at a Swedish archaeological dig where a rare cache of documents has been discovered side by side with an ancient symbol linked to the Seven Sisters, the progenitors of the People.

While in Sweden, Maya meets James Terhune, an attractive archaic language expert, and invites him to take on a position at the Institute for Early Cultural Studies, the People's main historical research branch. James is thrilled by the opportunity Maya extends and intrigued by the attraction he feels for her. He soon begins to suspect, however, that the secrets of the grave are minor compared to the secrets Maya holds, secrets that could hamper their burgeoning relationship and cripple the work they've undertaken for the IECS.

The People aren't the only ones interested in the newly-discovered documents. An ancient enemy of the People resurfaces, threatening the lives of Maya and James' loved ones, and setting in motion a chain of events that could save the People, or destroy them.

Daniella Nehring is a fierce warrior with a turbulent past. Born in the earliest days of World War II to unknown parents, she was raised by Rebecca Upton, one of the People’s most notable leaders. Dani has always had questions about her parents’ identities, information Rebecca refuses to reveal, leaving a gaping hole in Dani's own identity.

Dani travels to New York on Rebecca's orders to search for the mysterious woman who stole a copy of the Prophecy of Light from the People. There, she teams up with Dave Winstead, an FBI agent working undercover with the People's most ancient and deadly enemy. Dave has a soft spot for the young warrior that divides his loyalties between her and the job he took in order to fulfill a promise he made a decade and a half before, a promise he's determined to keep, no matter what the cost.

As Dani and Dave are drawn deeper into the hunt for the missing artifact, Dani's immortality is jeopardized, and with it, her ability to reclaim the Prophecy tablet. When she learns the truth about her heritage, Dani must confront her past in a struggle that will change her life forever.

After fourteen years, Indigo Dupree returns to Tellowee, Georgia, to face the past she left behind. She's tried of running, tired of hiding, and wants nothing more than to help her mother through the final days of her pregnancy. Bobby is the son of the Blade and a ruthless warrior in his own right. At sixteen, the age of manhood among the People, he tried to claim the woman he loved and failed, and spent the next decade hacking his way through Uncle Sam's enemies. Now a successful businessman, he's given the task of tracking down the People's enemies, including India Furia, the twin sister of his heart's only love.

Duty demands that Indigo atone for the sins of her sister by helping to bring her in. India has other ideas, ones that draw Indigo and Bobby into a deadly game involving the Prophecy of Light, forcing Indigo to choose between her duty and her heart.

Tempered
Daughters of the People #3.5
By- Lucy Varna
Genre- Fantasy/ Romance /Romantic Suspense

Among the People, Hawthorne the Chronicler is well-known for two things: Her faithful rendition of their history and her inclination to behead those who betray her. To mortals, Hawthorne is better known as Al C. Hawthorne, a fantasy writer with a stellar imagination and a knack for complex stories. It is in this guise that she must track down the sources of comic book illustrator Aaron Kesselman's modernized tales of Rebecca the Blade.

Hawthorne's blunt words and lithe grace intrigue Aaron, enough for him to take her up on the offer of sharing her bed. Before he knows it, his heart begins the fall into love, a fall he's willing to take if only he can persuade Hawthorne that she isn't a two thousand year old immortal descended from one of the most ruthless warriors in British history.

The past isn't the only obstacle standing in the way of true love. The Eternal Order is on the move, targeting key members of the People in their never-ending quest to extinguish the Light. Hawthorne soon learns that a strong arm and a sharp blade aren't always the best weapons in a Daughter's arsenal, especially when her heart is involved.

In All Things, Balance
Daughters of the People # 4
By- Lucy Varna
Genre- Fantasy/ Romance /Romantic Suspense

The People are in a time of great need. The Prophecy of Light has been rediscovered, the Eternal Order constitutes a growing threat, and the IECS Archives may hold the key the People need to forever be free of An’s curse.

Moira the Reluctant, immortal Daughter of the renowned Rebecca Upton, journeys from her home in Ireland to assist with efforts to locate Sanctuary, the legendary refuge of the Seven Sisters. There, she meets Tom Fairfax, a reserved archivist tasked with organizing and modernizing the Archives. Tom is everything a Daughter could want in a future mate, handsome, intelligent, and kind. Above all, his touch arouses her in a way no other man’s ever has.

The moment Tom spied Moira, his heart tangled into a knot and hasn’t loosened since. The beautiful Daughter has a sharp tongue and a temper to match, and is not at all the kind of woman he dreamed of calling his own. In spite of the attraction he feels for her, Tom goes out of his way to avoid the fiery Daughter, determined to protect himself from certain heartbreak. Moira is equally determined to have him, regardless of his apparent infatuation with another Daughter.

When Moira’s brother is kidnapped, she and Tom are thrown together in a way neither anticipated, forcing them to trust one another or risk losing their budding love under the crushing weight of the Order’s never-ending quest for continued immortality.

Sanctuary
Daughters of the People # 5
By- Lucy Varna
Genre- Fantasy/ Romance /Romantic Suspense

Jerusha Mankiller has found herself in a lot of tight spots during her century and a half of living, but her current assignment takes the cake. Her mother, the formidable Blade, has sent her halfway around the world to investigate clues to the locations of Sanctuary and the City of the Sisters. The catch? Her cover is as the wife of her brother’s best friend, a former Delta Force Operator with a smart attitude and a wicked smile.

Playing somebody’s husband isn’t a new cover for Drew Martin, but it’s the first time he’s partnered a woman he’s got the hots for. Unfortunately, Jerusha treats him like her kid brother, and when she’s not, she’s instituted a strictly hands-off policy. One kiss wouldn’t kill her, would it? And at least then he’d know if the wild attraction tugging at him affected her, too.

Tracking down decades-old leads isn’t exactly easy, though. Soon, Jerusha and Drew have their hands full countering the problems cropping up around every corner. Someone is tailing them, the Shadow Enemy turns up in the unlikeliest of places, and an ancient Daughter sets her cap for Drew, leaving him wondering what could possibly go wrong next.

About the Author

Lucy Varna lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northeast Georgia, surrounded by her large, extended family. Her writing draws extensively on her background in genealogy, history, and archaeology, as well as on her eternal love of Science Fiction, Fantasy, the paranormal, and suspense.

1. Please tell us about yourself using 3 adjectives, 1 quirk and a pop culture addiction
I am musical, eccentric, and unpredictable. I collect socks and sock yarns (the latter so I can make socks). I’m completely addicted to Firefly!

2. Who do you consider the most swoon-worthy man/woman in the literary world? How about on tv/in the movies?
The most swoon-worthy man ever is, of course, Mr. Darcy, in literature or not. On TV, definitely Matt Bomer. Hubba.

3. How do you come up with character names?  How do you come up with novel titles?
Sometimes, character names pop into my head. At other times, I have to go searching through genealogy databases, movie credits, and online lists of baby names.

With the Daughters of the People Series, I knew the titles of the seven main books before I started writing them, based on the overall series arc. So, it’s not unusual for me to base a story around a title, but it’s also not unusual for me to craft the title based on the story I’m writing. I guess it goes both ways!

4. Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?
Don’t be afraid of writing if it’s something you have a real passion for. Learning to write is like everything. It takes a lot of practice to be good. The best advice anyone can give to an aspiring writer is to write, write, write. Make writing a regular part of your schedule and don’t make excuses for not putting paper to pen (or fingers to keyboard). If you really want to write, you have to overcome your own insecurities and doubts fostered by other people’s negativity, and your own!

And then he placed his lips in the tiny spot of my neck that his breath was tickling. The sensations exploded behind my eyelids as my eyes rolled back into my head.

Heaven on earth. Paradise. I couldn’t help the whimper that escaped my lips.

I kissed him, no longer able to hold back. No longer wanting to.

He kissed me with all the passion I could have hoped for. I breathed him into me, wanting to remember these sensations forever. He pulled me closer to him, our bodies intertwined. His hand was on my back, holding me firmly against him. His other hand held my face softly, as if I was something he treasured.

This moment…this moment was everything.

Excerpt

Jackson stood several feet away, staring out the window next to the only stairwell and elevator on this floor. He was dressed in tailored slacks and a collared shirt, the perfect hue of blue to highlight his turquoise eyes. His hands were in his pockets, and he seemed to be lost in thought.

I took advantage of his preoccupation and filled my senses with the sight of him. Jackson had grown into manhood remarkably well. His shirt did nothing to hide the broad, muscled shoulders beneath it. His angular jaw line no longer looked out of place and now sported a few days of stubble. And holy shit, Jackson Montgomery had sex hair, spiked in abandoned disarray. The kind you imagined grabbing while he whispered naughty things in your ear and backed them up by making your entire body shake. And it seemed, I wasn’t alone in my admiration. Two nurses at the other end of the hallway ogled him with obvious appreciation. He was oblivious to us all.

Shaken by how fast I’d forgotten my reasons for loathing Jackson Montgomery, my steps faltered. Self-disgust hardened my feelings for him and gave me the courage to keep walking in his direction. Hoping for a quick retreat, I forced myself to move faster toward the elevator.

Looking up, his eyes flashed to my face, and his mouth quirked in a familiar smile more aptly described as a smirk. This was an expression I remembered seeing many times. But was he ever this sexy before?

Regardless of my resolve, my breath caught in my chest. “Hello, Jackson.” Embarrassed by the slight tremble in my voice, I paused in front of the elevators, keeping a respectable distance between us.

AUTHOR BIO

My name is Mari Denae.

I am a married mother of three and publishing my first novel is a dream come true. As the nerd that went to bed with a flash light to read the books I swiped from my mom’s room, I have always been an avid book lover. My favorites are hot, alpha male heroes (think Kristen Ashley), suspenseful, romantic thrillers (think Sandra Brown) and poignant, sweet love stories (think Abbi Glines or Colleen Hoover). My plan was always to be a writer of some sort, but somehow real life responsibilities got in the way. Now, I am an accountant with a night time writing obsession.

One Saturday afternoon, I took my girls to see the latest teenage movie. Four days later, I had read all four Twilight books. I was inspired by the innocent romance and ‘Edward Cullen’ (don’t judge). Once I found my way to Fifty Shades of Grey, I was a complete goner. All my spare time was spent reading, writing or blogging. After version one million, five hundred and fifty five of my series Reawakened, I’m finally ready to share it and hope that someone enjoys reading the story as much as I have enjoyed writing it. This one’s for my mother. I hope she’s looking down proud because I finally finished what I started.

Excerpt

A loud whump-whump-whump echoed through the night sky, and we all spun toward the noise. Martin’s sunglasses slipped off his face and onto the ground. Mary-Anne stumbled backwards, crunching them beneath her feet. A bright light from above sliced through the darkness, and I shielded my eyes as a hot wind kicked up dust all around us and knocked over Mr. Sinclair’s two telescopes. The air hummed with energy.

A blinding light enveloped us like a giant glowing eyeball. My knees knocked together. Martin and Mary-Anne clung to each other like a pair of frightened puppies. Grandma Bev leaned into the furious breeze and threw on a pair of enormous pink sunglasses. She grabbed her digital camera from her purse and stuck out her chin defiantly. She snapped pictures of the mysterious bright light. “I know what you have come for and this ends now!” she shouted. “Release all the cats in the city this very moment. There will be no alien consumption of cats if I have anything to say about it!”

Summary from Goodreads

Secure in his position as the mighty Prince-warlock’s son, eighteen-year-old Basil is content with his solitary life of study and magic. He has a comfortable set of rooms in his father’s tower, he has his books and scrolls, and he is perfectly happy. Until the Warlockry Council summons him, and their demands sets his whole, safe existence tottering. Scared and unsure, he decides to run, and takes the first ship out of town. On board he meets Yarwan, the handsome midshipman, who awakens feelings he never knew existed.

Maud of the M'Brannoe, at nineteen already a mighty Kell warrioress, is about to graduate as a Lioness, a special duty officer answering to her Queen and no one else. The Prince-warlock asks her to fetch a certain boy from a pirate town, who could be double for his son. On their way back, someone sabotages their airship and the two find themselves marooned in an ill-reputed forest. Together, the young lioness and Jurgis the lookalike run for the coast and a ship home, while finding solace in each other’s arms.

Then the four young people meet, and Basil learns of a spell that might help him. Only the spell’s creator, the infamous Black Warlock, disappeared nearly a century ago. When the four young people decide to go looking for him, they start on a path leading to an old war and unsolved mysteries that will change the world. Or kill them.
