When Ava Flynn walks away from a scholarship to Georgetown and moves into her grandmother’s abandoned summer home in coastal Maine, she steps into the center of a centuries-old curse. On her first night, she notices a mysterious leather-clad stranger looking up at her third-story window. For weeks, everywhere she goes, Ava catches more glimpses of him, but she can never get close enough to find out who he is.

Over three hundred years ago, Lady Catherine Fairchild risked everything to protect her unborn child, sending a ripple through time that would change Ava’s future. As the mystery unravels, the horrifying consequences of Lady Catherine’s choices drag Ava deeper into a world she never knew existed, trapping her in a conflict that’s been raging since before she was born. A winner-take-all battle for her soul.

Loud honking wrenched me from my own personal utopia, and I shuffled to the dirty window to peek out. The sun had slipped below the horizon, and the streetlights were coming on, but the two men and their truck had pulled into the driveway and were already unloading our stuff. “Impressive.” I used the sleeve of my sweatshirt to wipe away some of the thick grime coating the window. That’s when I noticed the guy leaning against the lamppost across the street. He couldn’t have been much older than me—dressed all in black, from his leather jacket to his Doc Martens, with artfully disheveled dark, wavy hair and a sexy crooked smile.

A warm prickle started at the base of my skull and worked its way down my spine. I cupped my hands against the glass to peer down at him. It had to have been too dark in my room for him to see me, but I could have sworn his eyes locked with mine. I almost wanted to wait for the sun to come up to see if he’d catch fire… or sparkle. The guy was that hot.

“What are you doing in my room?”

I squealed and spun around to face the wrath of my brother. His blue eyes narrowed—the same sapphire-blue eyes as Dad’s—and his stick arms crossed angrily over his loose-fitting Orioles jersey, the signed Cal Ripken jersey Dad gave him, if I wasn’t mistaken. The thing hung on him like a tarp, but he rarely took it off these days. If he hadn’t scared the life out of me, I would have found his fury hilarious. “Sorry, peanut. Mom said I could have it.”

“Josh… stop bothering your sister, and come get your boxes.” Mom’s voice carried up the three flights of stairs.

“I will get my revenge.” With one last death glare in my direction, he spun on his heels, grumbling to himself as he stomped out of my room and down the stairs.

As soon as I was sure he wasn’t coming back, I whirled to the window and the mysterious guy below. But he was gone.

Ava Flynn is cursed.

After barely surviving an epic battle between her warring soul mates, Ava is stranded in the past with Laith, while Maddox frantically searches across the decades. Laith will stop at nothing to prove his love to Ava, and a desperate Maddox must race against time to find her before his brother can win her heart.

Torn between the two brothers, and with her eternal soul at stake, Ava comes to the horrifying conclusion that only she can break the curse. But the cost may be more than she is willing to pay.

“Ava, do you trust me?” Laith’s words echoed in my brain.

I did trust him, though I had no idea why after all the underhanded crap he’d pulled since we’d met. But trusting him didn’t stop the bitter wind lashing me through the air like a sail in a storm. I couldn’t have been more than moments away from being torn apart at the seams.

Even after Laith snatched me from the jaws of death, drawing me into the empty space between time, I felt the icy water biting into my skin like tiny, razor-sharp teeth. Even after we’d vanished into the nothingness, I heard the crashing of the waves at the lighthouse on Casco Bay. The angry sound echoed all around me as we spiraled through the black abyss, as if I’d pressed my ear to a giant seashell and somehow fallen into the dark tunnel within. We seemed to fall forever, tumbling through the emptiness, my wet hair swirling around me, repeatedly slapping me in the face. Thanks to Maddox, I was no stranger to time travel, but it wasn’t an experience I’d ever get used to.

Maddox.

The devastation reflected in his dark eyes as my hand slipped from his etched itself across my memory like the burn of a fresh tattoo. Leaving him behind was like having my entire existence ripped away from me and getting sent to purgatory—like a rusty dagger plunged straight into my heart.

And even with his twin brother beside me—the other piece to our messed-up soul mate puzzle—I missed Maddox desperately.

My hand had gone numb from the icy chill and the death grip I had on Laith. He’d sacrificed himself to save me. How could I ever thank him for that? Despite the cold and the wet, he held tight to me, lacing our fingers together, satisfying the skin-to-skin contact necessary to tether me to the jump. But we were too far apart for me to feel secure.

Icy wind bit into me like a million knives, stabbing my skin over and over again until I fully expected to lose consciousness. My body thrashed around as if on a carnival ride gone wrong, making my stomach roil. Unlike the other times I’d traveled through the portal, something felt off, as if the gods of time somehow knew one solid gust could tear us apart.

Then as if we’d never touched at all, my fingers slipped from Laith’s, and I spun away from him.

Don’t miss the explosive conclusion to the Flames of Time trilogy.

Ava Flynn walked through flames to erase the past and bring her little brother, Josh, back from the dead. But the reboot doesn’t come without strings. While navigating her new reality, Ava must avoid Maddox... without fracturing the timeline. If she fails, she may never find Laith again.

With her own heart at stake, Ava scours time for the key to unraveling the curse binding her soul to both Laith’s and Maddox’s. One brother is the love of her life. And the other... Not even death will stop him from keeping them apart.

As Ava’s present collides with the brothers’ pasts, she discovers that breaking the curse might have unintended consequences. And this time, her soul isn’t the only one on the line.

"Dark and seductive, the Flames of Time series is a breathless, achingly beautiful read that will find its way into your heart and stay there forever."

--Morgan Shamy, author of The Redpoint Crux

"The queen of sexual tension reigns again. Dean has woven an epic saga of desperation, timeless passion, and fated love like you've never seen before."
--Rebecca Rode, author of Tides of Mutiny

"Shattered Souls is the heart-pounding, white-knuckle, spellbinding conclusion to the flames of time series.  Erica Lucke Dean has topped off a master piece series with a spectacular finale!"
--Deborah L King, author of Glory Bishop

"A thrilling time-travel romance that will leave your heart pounding until the very last line."
--Rashida T. Williams, author of Beaus and Arrows

With my insides trembling hard enough to make my vision blur, I turned my back on Abercrombie, resisting the urge to nudge him in Hannah’s direction—the timeline had already taken enough hits for one day—and marched my way down the beach, toward Maddox.

The tuning fork inside me quivered with every step I took in his direction. He stood there in the moonlight, a confident, almost arrogant, smile on his perfect lips. He didn’t move toward me, but I didn’t expect him to. Instead, he curled his finger, bending it toward him as if he had it tied to a rope around my waist, pulling me forward. Every bone in my body ached to be near him, the prickle at the base of my spine going off like a fire alarm, and yet the empty place in my chest told me this wasn’t real. My soul may have been confused, but my heart called out to Laith.

Cautiously, I stepped up to Maddox. Despite everything I knew about him, everything that had happened before that moment, my fingers itched to touch the cool leather of his sleeve, to lean into him for comfort. But it wasn’t him I wanted comfort from, it was the other boy with his face.

Maddox towered over me, staring down with fathomless eyes. The familiar swirls of green and gold against a field of honey brown held me captive while fear danced down my spine. I’d almost forgotten how tall he was.

Say something. I tried to remember what I’d said the first time, but between the surf crashing against the shore and my pounding heart, my ears buzzed as if a swarm of bees had nested deep inside my brain. I couldn’t think. You’re supposed to kiss him. If you don’t kiss him, you’ll mess up the timeline.

As if he’d read the fear in my eyes, his mouth curved into a knowing smirk. I shuddered as he brought his lips down to my ear.

Hot breath fanned across my neck. “I don’t bite.”

I almost laughed at his bold-faced lie. I may have fallen for it the first time, but I wasn’t that girl anymore. “Would you even tell me if you did?”

His smirk spread into a full blown smile. “Probably not.”

That time, I did laugh, and my reaction seemed to surprise him.

He studied me for a few seconds, scrunching his eyebrows together and tilting his head to the side as if he couldn’t figure me out. Then he shook off whatever dark thoughts he’d had and placed his warm hand against my cheek, the same way he had the first time he’d kissed me. “I’ve waited a long time to do this.”

A jolt of electricity sparked where his skin came in contact with mine. Instinctively, I closed my eyes and leaned into his touch, a contented purr rolling up my throat. Every fiber in my being ached for him to kiss me. Hurry, before I change my mind.

His fingers twitched against my cheek as he murmured my name, and my chest went impossibly still. I froze like a marble statue as the blood coursing through my veins hardened into ice cubes. He’s not Laith.

About Erica Lucke Dean:

After walking away from her career as a business banker to pursue writing full-time, Erica moved from the hustle and bustle of the big city to a small tourist town in the North Georgia Mountains where she lives in a 90-year-old haunted farmhouse with her workaholic husband, her 180lb lap dog, and at least one ghost.

When she’s not busy writing or tending to her collection of crazy chickens, diabolical ducks, and a quintet of piglets, hell bent on having her for dinner, she’s either reading bad fan fiction or singing karaoke in the local pub. Much like the characters in her books, Erica is a magnet for disaster, and has been known to trip on air while walking across flat surfaces.

How she’s managed to survive this long is one of life’s great mysteries.

You can find out more about Erica, in addition to her humorous blog posts and disasters, on her website.
