Title: Dead Jed 2: Dawn of the Jed
Publication date: December 9, 2014
Publisher: Month9Books, LLC.
Author: Scott Craven

The first part of seventh grade was rough on Jed, but things are looking up now that Christmas is almost here. As with past Christmases, Jed asks for the one thing he’s always wanted–a dog–and again, his parents tell him they’re not ready. But fate has a different plan when Jed sees a dog get run over by a car. Then, it happens. Jed suddenly has a pet, Tread, a zombie dog bearing his namesake–a tire tread down his back. Jed may have gained a dog, but he loses his best friend Luke, who fears the way Jed created his undead pet.

When Jed returns to school, he finds a mysterious group called the No Zombies Now Network spreading rumors of the dangers the undead pose to normal people. Forced to disprove Hollywood stereotypes, Jed has his work cut out for him as stories of a zombie dog begin to circulate. Jed could be expelled if he can’t expose the NZN Network as a fraud. Jed needs help from his kind of girlfriend Anna, especially after he discovers Luke has joined the shadowy group.

Once again navigating the treacherous waters of middle school, Jed does his best to stay in one piece. Only this time he’ll need even more duct tape and staples than usual.

Random #3 – My Pet Tread (Jed talks about why he loves his new pet)

I’ve been a zombie all my life (at least that’s what I’m told). One of my my earliest memories involves taking off a really uncomfortable vest and jumping into the cool, refreshing lake. When I came up, I thought it was so cool to see all those boats, a lot of them with spinning red lights. Turns out I was gone for thirty minutes. Only my parents knew I was probably underwater the whole time.

As a zombie, I tend to freak people out. At first they think I’m just a kid in need of some sun. Then my arm gets yanked off and it’s all screams and panic.

And then there’s my pet zombie dog Tread. He doesn’t mind my limbs falling off unless it delays his dinner. In fact, he’ll pull off my hand when he wants to play fetch.

He accepts me for who I am. I can come home from the worst day – do poorly on a pop quiz, then Robbie beating me up between classes because I made it too hard for him to copy, then beating me up again after school when we were both called into the principal’s office to explain two identical “F” papers – and there’s Tread, tail wagging, ripping off my hand and running into the backyard for a game of fetch.

You just can’t beat having a faithful four-legged friend like that. Even when he sometimes has three legs, having torn off one of his limbs to bury.
