Savage Possession - Belinda Boring
Book 5 of The Mystic Wolves series

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00028]

Growing up, Darcy knew that life would be filled with challenges and tough decisions, but none so difficult as the one that would alter her future forever. Given the choice between losing Mason or becoming a vampire, Darcy risks the overwhelming threat of insanity, and places her destiny, her hopes and dreams, in the hands of Devlin. When she survives the conversion and shows how truly strong she is, everyone thinks that the worst is behind them. It’s time to get back to normal - or their new normal - and live happily ever after.
But danger still lurks within the shadows - both in Woodside Hollow, the supernatural community, and within Darcy. Even though she looks fine, she seems “altered” to those closest to her, something beyond the expected consequences of her dual nature. With reports of dark rituals and blood sacrifices being performed, the Council has their hands filled trying to solve that mystery, leaving Mason scrambling to find out what’s wrong with his mate.
Will the imbalance warring within Darcy eventually settle, or will her decision to become part vampire-part werewolf lead to a SAVAGE POSSESSION?

About Elizabeth Los

I began writing fan fiction short stories in 2010 as means of escape. Every night, after ten hours of work and once the children were finally tucked in bed, for the fifth time, I would sit at my laptop and let my imagination flow through my fingers. Typing over eighty words per minute, my stories quickly began to form from novellas into full length novels. I used writing as my therapy, my release for stress.

Interview

Do you have a favorite comment or question from a reader?
I’ve enjoyed many of the comments, especially when it comes to comparing James Benedict (aka Hook) and Robert Benedict. I welcome all questions regarding Second on the Right, so none are particularly my favorite. However, I’ve grown amused by the repeated comment. It would seem that a dragged out the mystery within the novel a bit too long. Several have said that once they’ve reached the halfway point in the novel, the story takes off like a rocket. Because I keep reading this comment, I’m debating adding it to the novel’s blurb!

Where do your ideas come from?
I’m twisted mind? Sometimes I have dreams that give me the spark for an idea. Othertimes, it happens while I’m doing mind numbing work, like cleaning. When my work requires little brain power, so to speak, I find my mind wanders and I begin to think and formulate stories. Sometimes I recreate scenes from movies where I didn’t like what happened to a particular character.

If you could sum your main character into five words, what would they be?
Loving, Loyal, Persistent, Intelligent, Temperamental

Who is your favorite author and why?
If I could only choose one, I’d have to say Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock Holmes is my favorite fictional character. I’ve read those stories over and over again.

What is your favorite scene to write?
I enjoyed writing the scene in Captain Benedict’s quarters where we first see Eileen encounter Pan. A close second would be the confrontation between James and Pan aboard the Mistral Thief.

Who is your favorite character in your book and why?
James is my favorite character in Second on the Right and also the inspiration/reason why I wrote Second on the Right in the first place. I always felt there was more to Hook’s story than just what we find in Barrie’s version. What motivated him and pushed him to seek revenge on Peter Pan? Was it really just the loss of his right hand or was there more to it than that?

Excerpt

I’d always heard the view from Top of the Mark was exceptional. When San Francisco Life listed the top ten places to view the skyline at night, Top of the Mark was ranked number three, so when the invitation to Harrison’s wedding arrived, I finally had an excuse to take in the view for myself.

Stupid, stupid me. I should have taken a cab up the steep hills to 999 California Street, hopped on the elevator to the nineteenth floor, and looked out the windows. I could have come with or without makeup, and I could have worn jeans and a t-shirt. If I’d brought Mia or Aleena with me, we could have had a nice dinner or dessert. If I’d brought Angus, we could have had both. Since Top of the Mark was built at the crest of Nob Hill, I could have snapped a jaw-dropping photo or two with my iPhone and made the sparkling skyline my screen saver.

But no. I had to come see it on the night my old boyfriend was marrying a 49ers cheerleader named Nicki, who’d had more remodeling than an episode of Property Brothers. She looked like a Who’s Who of Hollywood parts—Scarlett’s nose, Angelina’s lips, and Kim’s cheekbones. Her bias-cut dress clung to her other (ahem) purchased body parts and made me feel very un-girly in comparison.

“Nicki, this is Charlotte.” Harrison looked me level in the eye, and for the first time all evening, I felt an inch of relief that things hadn’t worked out between us. Five-eleven is pretty average for a guy, and Harrison towered over Nicki, even in her stilettos. But the only way he’d ever have been able to look down at me the way he’d looked down at Nicki when they’d exchanged their vows was if he’d stood on a stool. I know it’s not important, and it makes me sound completely shallow, but I read a romance once where the leading man “gazed down at his true love with tender eyes.” Someday, I’d like a guy to gaze down at me with tender eyes. And I’d rather not have to be standing in a hole for that to happen.

“It’s fabulous to finally meet you.” Nicki’s voice was chirpy, and her lips didn’t move quite right. “I want to thank you for breaking his heart”—she puckered up and baby-talked—“so I could put it back together.” She pulled him down by his tuxedo lapel to kiss his cheek, then wiped the red smear away with her acrylic-nailed thumb.

Well, this was awkward. And I wasn’t the only one feeling it. Harrison’s eyes begged me not to set the record straight.

You see, Harrison had broken up with me. “I’m not ready for the whole settling down with one woman thing,” he’d said four short months ago. “You’re ready to get married, and I won’t be ready for that scene for years.”

Maybe he’d meant dog years.

“Congratulations, you two. You make a much better couple than we ever did,” I said, although it stung to admit it.

“Did Will come? I saw Angus a little while ago,” Harrison said. Will is my twin brother. No, his name is not Wilbur, although we’ve been asked if our parents had a thing for Charlotte’s Web more times than I can count. His name is William, and he’s the reason I ended up dating Harrison in the first place.

Our families lived on the same street in Fairfield, but I barely remembered Harrison, who was two years older than us. Nearly a year ago, Will and Harrison had been at the same concert, and Harrison had asked Will if his little sister was still available. Will wasn’t sure if he meant me or McKayla, but since McKayla was already married, he gave Harrison my number. On our first date, Harrison admitted he hadn’t been asking about me, but he was decent enough to say he was glad for the mix-up. And the rest is history.

A short and tragic history, but history nonetheless.

“Will and his wife are in D.C. right now interviewing.” I stepped on my tiptoes and scanned the room over the groom’s head. “I didn’t know Angus was here.”

“I talked to him earlier, but he might have left already,” Harrison said.

“Aaahhh!”

I nearly knocked over a waiter as I jumped away from Nicki’s scream. “Look, Kitten. It’s Baxter Kensington. I didn’t think he’d actually come.”

Kitten? Did she really call him that? Harrison’s red face confirmed that yes, she had. “He plays for the 49ers,” he explained, and I nodded.

“I’d better go and make room for the celebrities,” I said, and Harrison grinned. He’d always appreciated my sarcasm, and his cute grin jabbed at my not-quite-healed heart.

“Thanks for coming.” He pulled me into a hug while his bride arranged her dress to best flatter her cleavage and patted the sides of her platinum fauxhawk. “Are things good with us?” he said quietly in my ear.

I pulled away. “Oh sure.”

“I was worried—”

“Nothing to worry about. Go. Be happy.”

“Thanks, Charlotte.”

I turned away, my eyes stinging, and nearly barreled into one of the most stunning specimens of athleticism I’d ever seen. His pale yellow shirt and silvery gray suit contrasted beautifully with his dark skin. No wonder the bride was swooning about someone other than the groom. Poor Harrison looked like a little boy in comparison.

Ah, one of the hazards of marrying a cheerleader.

Through slightly blurred vision, I saw Harrison put his arm around Nicki. Not too long ago, I’d thought that would be me, though the venue and guest list would have been drastically different.

Excerpt

“What if I want sex to mean something?  What if I want to love the person I’m sleeping with?”

“Then you’re going to have to look for him, dear virgin,” Patrick said, taking a long slurp from the green can.  “A girl’s virginity is like a pepper at the grocery store.”

“A pepper?”

“Or a tomato…the point is that it looks great as it ripens.  You can watch the tomato fill out, the skin growing tight and plump as the curves fill in.  You run your finger over the fruit and see that the flesh springs back to the touch.  You pick it up, turning it about in your fingers, admiring the tightness and the shininess.  You take it home, set it on the counter, and already you wonder if you grabbed the wrong fruit because it looks so different already.  The skin is no longer as taut, the flesh no longer as firm. Frowning, you go to sleep, wake up the next day and the fruit is wrinkled, saggy, and wilted.  If you wait for much longer…the fruit will rot and trust me…no one wants rotting fruit.”

“That’s a horrible analogy!”

Book Tour {Interview & Giveaway} Granny Skewers A Scoundrel by Julie Seedorf

Cozy Mystery – 225 Pages
Cozy Cat Press (March 11, 2014)
ISBN-13: 978-1939816382

Synopsis

Granny has a new addition to her arsenal of crime fighting weapons as Fuchsia, Minnesota’s most colorful detective. Now, along with her famous crook-hooking umbrella, she’s acquired a scoundrel-skewering knitting needle. And just in time! Residents of Fuchsia seem to be dropping dead like flies! First, it’s Granny’s neighbor Sally (who gives up the ghost in her weed-filled front yard), followed by Esmeralda Periwinkle (the squirrel lover on Main Street), and then, Mr. Nail, owner of the local hardware store (who is squashed when dozens of bags of fertilizer fall on top of him). Granny is baffled. Who is behind this murder spree?

Granny enlists the help of her sort of boyfriend franklin Gatsby, the town’s police chief Cornelius Stricknine (or “The Big Guy”), her reality-show loving neighbor Mavis, and her own son Thor. And, of course, the special assistance of her menagerie of pets — including Mr. Bleaty, the goat. Soon Granny is hot on the trail of this dastardly murderer. Unfortunately, when Granny herself is poisoned, everyone insists that she cool her crime solving ways and stay indoors and out of harms way. Of course, that’s never going to happen! Not when Granny knows all the secret passageways and tunnels that run underneath Fuchsia. Out she goes–and watch out, you evil doers! Granny will solve this mystery–you can bet your pink undies, she will!

About This Author

Julie grew up in a small Minnesota community. She knows the value of neighbors looking out for neighbors.

Julie has worn many hats during her lifetime. She has been a waitress, barmaid, activities assistant, store clerk, office manager and for the last 14 years has worked in computer repair, and finally owning her own computer repair business. In January 2014 she closed her computer business to write full time.

Her most important career in her estimation has been wife, mother and grandmother. Nothing could equal the gift of nurturing and watching her children and grandchildren grow.

Julie is also a columnist for the Albert Lea Tribune. Her column “Something About Nothing” brings a little fluff to an unfluffy world. She believes there is always something underlying in the nothings we talk about. In 2011 she self-published “Whatchamacallit? Thingamajig?. It is a book about grandmothers and grandchildren. It was a collaboration between her grandchildren and Julie. Along with a glossary and lots of weird words, it is a mystery that reveals to the characters grandchildren who Grandma used to be.

In 2013 Julie signed a contract with Cozy Cat Press for the publication of her Cozy Mystery “Granny Hooks A Crook.” It fulfilled one item on Julie’s bucket list. Granny lives in the fictional town of Fuchsia, Minnesota. The Fuchsia, Minnesota books is a series. Granny Skewers A Scoundrel, book two in the series was released in March 2014. The Fuchsia books are unusual cozies with a little satire about small communities and an over the top Granny that gives a new meaning to old.  Julie also writes free lance for the Courier Sentinel and the Albert Lea Tribune. She also is designing a line of shirts, cups and other material to complement her books.

Never quit dreaming is Julie’s motto. Dreams are the gateway to fun, fantasy and the future.

Interview

Welcome to Kelly P’s Blog!
Thank you for having me on your blog Kelly. I am so happy to be here.

How did you come up with the title of your book?
I actually came up with the name of my book while I was deciding what Granny’s new weapon of choice was going to be.  One of my friends suggested a knitting needle when we were talking about yarn one night, and knitting needles seemed to be a good fit for Granny even though she doesn’t knit. What do you do if you use a knitting needle as a weapon? You skewer someone.

Who designed the cover of your book?
Cozy Cat Press came up with the design. The illustrator this time was Keri Knutson. She started with a stock photo and made Granny my own. The strange thing is that the cover Granny looks like my real Grandma that died when I was six years old, down to the nose, glasses, skinny figure, hat, hair and dress. The picture I found of my Grandma was a clone of Granny. I am hoping for the next books that Granny gets a little transformation since she is now in love, or maybe in love. Also I am hoping we can figure out a way to make a character transition to my real Grandma’s picture. I haven’t checked with Cozy Cat Press on that one yet but I will now that I am starting my third book in the series.

How long did it take you to write this book?
Granny Skewers A Scoundrel took about six months to write because my computer business was still open and I was trying to do both. Hopefully, now that I made the transition to full time writer my writing will get better and so will my timeline.

How do you cope with writer’s block?
I don’t get writer’s block too often. It is harder to write if I am not feeling well but the strange ideas seem to float in my head all the time especially when I go to sleep at night, or wake up in the morning. That is the time where I put together in my head what is going to come next, although occasionally I think something is going to happen, and when I am absorbed, something different happens, and I have to stop to figure out why it happened.

Do you have a favorite line or quote in this book?
I don’t have a favorite line but I have a tiny little happening in the book that is a favorite. It happens when Granny is going to accept an award. She looks out to the audience, she looks up at the Mayor, and then she drops to the ground like an apple from a tree. I wrote that and had no idea why she did that or what was going to happen next. It was as if someone else took over my fingers on my keyboard and put that little tidbit in.

What inspired you to write this book?
Inspiration can come from many places but my inspiration for this series is to relax with fantasy and fluff. We live in communities that have umpteen rules.  It drives me crazy to see all the houses painted the same color and rules and regulations on the type of plants we can plant etc. Even after we are dead our families have rules and regulations of what they can put on our grave or display on our tombstone and for how long. We also have this stereotype of how we are supposed to act when we are adults, what is appropriate to wear, and what happens when we age. I lived in a pink house growing up before all the neighborhood rules. My mom at 90 was climbing on the roof of her house to repair it, and cutting wood with a table saw. She gave up her dream of teaching in Alaska to stay home and take care of her mother, and then at the age of 42 she got married, raised  me, and helped my dad run his shoe store, all the while still taking care of her mother and a big garden. Before she died she told me she didn’t regret any of it, she did what she had to do. After she died, I read letters between her and my dad and letters she wrote when she was young. Society and expectations that she tried to fulfill made her give up her dream.  I liked the person I saw in the letters and the person she was when she was young and I think in a way Granny is a little like my mother. Granny became who she needed to be for her family and now she can be that unique, funny, silly woman. There are no boundaries, pure fun and fantasy. All of us have something hidden inside of us that we wish we would have held on to.

Describe the cover in 10 words or less.
Sparkling shoes, sparkling Granny. You’ll get her point.

If you could sum your main character into five words, what would they be?
Sparkling, Crusty, Devious, Courageous, Loving.

If your book was made into a TV series or Movie, which actors would you like to see playing your characters?
Polly Holliday, Flo from the TV show Alice. I can see her being Granny.

What are you working on right now?
I just finished the second in my Granny’s In Trouble Series for young readers. It should be out the end of June or early July. I am busy writing my columns for newspapers and human interest stories. I have also started the new book in the Fuchsia, Minnesota Series. There is actually a clue in Granny Skewers A Scoundrel, maybe two that are found and will be used in the third book. I can tell you that it takes place in the winter. Fuchsia is interesting in the winter and there will be some new colorful characters.
